This is a point that needs repeating. It’s fiscally conservative to house the homeless, it’s also the right thing to do.
Anderson Cooper: So it's more expensive to have a chronically homeless person living on the streets than it is to actually subsidize an apartment for them?

Answer: Yes, we’re paying more as taxpayers to walk past that person on the street and do nothing… #HousingFirst

My personal guidelines for dealing with people on social media:

Assume everyone is a friend you haven't yet gotten to know.
Assume everyone is struggling with their mental health
Don't promise any emotional labor you might not be able to provide
If someone seems like a hater, disengage right away

If it’s tenants, it’s cool to rip them off.
A judge decided that RealPage doesn’t have to pay back a cent of the $4 billion it stole from tenants. Timid attorneys and timid judges seem determined “to let big corporations run over anything in their path.” From @ddayen.bsky.social: trib.al/PlJbQZ9

A settlement with algorithmic collusion facilitator RealPage allows it to keep allegedly ill-gotten profits and continue innovating to raise rents.

If someone's response to an effort to fund social housing is to complain about how a ballot campaign was run 5 years ago, I'm going to interpret that as they oppose social housing, and they are an obstacle to be routed around.

If there's one thing the mainstream news media love to overlook, it's the impact of the mainstream news media. The petite Tea Party in all its elite-backed astroturfiness was hailed like a sacred comet; the historically huge No Kings was played down by the NY Times, among other publications.

If you think women here can't be forced backwards...

These are women in Parliament in Iran in the mid-1970's.

Their decline feels familiar.

A reaction to women having too many rights.
A fear of what was happening to traditional family.
A desire for younger wives.
A closing of the fist.

i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

It really is just simple geometry.

You cannot build a functional city if everyone brings a 2-ton living room on wheels with them.
The entrance to the 3-storey bike parking garage at Utrecht Central holding 12,500 bicycles. It’s free for the first 24 hours, linked to the station, and used by tens of thousands every day. This is what happens when a country treats bikes as real transport infrastructure, not an afterthought.

Federal court blocks new Texas congressional map for 2026
The decision is a major blow for Republicans, in Texas and nationally, who pushed through this unusual mid-decade redistricting at the behest of President Donald Trump.

The reason why socialism is no longer taboo in America is that our elites have successfully rebranded it as “any attempt by the state to function beyond semi-random violence“ while trying to combat it.

Suffice it to say, this proposal would be the opposite of what is needed for US transportation policy.

Federal transportation spending has been ineffective, inefficient, and bad for the environment. The Trump proposal would worsen those problems.

Look, Vance knows this is false. He doesn’t actually believe it. He has said this outright. For fascist filth like Vance, factual correctness is irrelevant. All that matters is whether it is symbolically correct. It’s vice signaling. Does it accurately represent your imagined fears?
