This is such a misunderstanding of why writers, artists, and designers do research to begin with, which is to find something unexpected, not capture the average or find reference for the default.

Based on what I have been hearing about the NCAR situation, no one knew anything until the USA Today article came out. That means there isn’t much actual organization inside the administration to pull this off and a chance to fight back. Call your congresspeople today! Especially republicans.

I can't believe this has to be said out loud: it would be idiocy of the highest order for the government to shutter NCAR. I have worked with and have been trained by NCAR scientists for almost 20 years. They've always done gold standard science, well before that phrase became politically poisoned.

NCAR is a unique & valuable asset - far more than a climate model, or observations, or technology, or training ground, or gathering space. It covers weather, space weather, data, climate, paleo-climate, and everything in-between. It's building is an icon, but it's iconic status goes far beyond that.
