HONESTLY, I think there needs to be a "Verbosity" Setting in the Audio Settings of games.

I adore narrative, I'm one of the sickos that would turn it up to max, because I like Aloy's self talking, and Cloud's musings...

But I get it.
i think a good lesson for game devs would be to remember that people don't really talk to themselves. when they do, it's "ah fuck" or "really?" and, again, it's rare. i lived alone for many years and i am happy to consult on this. i DO talk to my cat, of course. you could put a cat in.

Whenever I see the performance cost of the CharacterMovementComponent I have to lash myself to the mast to keep from building my own and it gets harder and harder as the years go by.

I’ve been having far too wicked a time working on this of late. If you want to hear the devil at your ear, give it a spin. Demo just dropped on Steam. 😈

Holy hell, y'all - nextfest is *huge*. Seems wise to speak up elsewhere, too.

Want to play our demo - which includes a pretty meaty chunk of our historical / occult horror story + deckbuilder gameplay w/ a twist? It's here. If you're into it, please review!🫀

Lots of @questiongames.bsky.social folks in attendance/chat today!

Come check out The Killing Stone! We've worked hard on this one and I think if you like Card Battlers and Folk Horror, you'll love it!
With it being Steam Next Fest, I'm doing my own little 'Hype The Homies' stream. We're starting with The Killing Stone and Tides of Tomorrow in just a moment, with some excellent gems to follow

If you've played The Killing Stone demo, we'd love for you to write a review on Steam. It helps out a lot!

If you haven't played it yet, there's still time!
The demo of our folk horror card strategy game The Killing Stone is live!

We gots creepy characters and furry friends and so many animated figurines with sweet VFX. Also the enemy AI is pretty diabolical, that's on me.

Please check it out and leave a review!

I was super excited to relaunch my blog and start putting up old posts again, up until I learned the hard way you are not allowed any whimsy because Mobile Layout sucks.

This just... self destructs on mobile.

It's insane how on the nose these are. I cannot imagine a conference more out of touch with its attendees these days.
I gotta hand it to whatever advertising firm Informa hired to make these, there really is something almost poetic about GDC's advertising being "an AI-looking depiction of an industry staple being destroyed with no clear elaboration of what comes after." Masterclass in unintentionally nailing it.

There's a bug in Unreal where Text Wrapping inside of a Scale Box creates this circular logic that causes the text to resize constantly.

It's like my PTSD Bug. Every time it comes up, I remember staring into an extremely strong gin drink and rethinking my entire life one night.

There could not be a game more thoroughly up my alley in terms of art style and gameplay...

Sadly they failed to disclose on Steam that it has Generative AI Art in it.

Hey #GameDev got a question for you:

Are there any good Classes for Cinematic Camera work in Unreal out there?

The only advice I've gotten so far is: "Go to film school, lol." which isn't workable.

The only time a journalist wants to chat is when there's an exciting game in front of us, and that is the topic. Never once have I been asked: "Hey Nick, whatcha playing for fun?".

As far as how the Sausage is made: Most of us won't shut the hell up about it if you ask, it's just boring stuff.
journalists can only do so much to convince readers that games are made by people, at some point companies need to let their talent talk about the industry they’re in, to communicate as if they are not in a vacuum where the only game that exists is the one in front of them

Talking with Game Engine devs from the PS3 era is always an exercise in awe and horror.

"Oh, our shaders are like that because everything in-game is a skeletal mesh."

"Like... The grass?"

"Skeletal mesh."

"The buildings?"

"Skeletal mesh."

"SKYBOX!?"

Genuinely looking for advice. I am working on the painted window for my #Miniature church from #DiscoElysium and I encountered a problem. I am #Painting with acrylics on plastic and it looks nice with the light in front, but when I put a light behind it all the color and nuance disappears.

It's wild how basically no narrative tools out there have Bark Matrix support, and when you talk with the folks making the tool they look at you like you have four heads and respond with some form of: "Why would you ever need this?"

The extreme focus on visual novels is holding back the tooling.
