A 🧵 against "violence, whether driven by antisemitism, racism, Islamophobia, or any other form of bigotry..."
We grieve the loss of life in Sydney, Australia, where gunmen attacked a celebration of the first night of Hanukkah, killing at least 11 people. This was a terrifying incident of hate-fueled violence that no community should face.

The Cambridge Online Trust & Safety Index tracks real time prices for a "bot army" in every country and on >500 social media and commercial platforms.

"In future work, the researchers hope to expand the index to track the price of fake likes and entire fake accounts."
If you’re thinking of getting your loved ones an unusual gift this Christmas—subverting an election, say, or tarnishing a rival’s reputation—this research is a must-read ;)

A fascinating new paper in @science.org looks at the global costs of SMS verifications that fake accounts rely on.

In a new article over at Carbon Brief, I explore why the past three years – 2023, 2024, and 2025 – have been exceptionally warm. The main culprits turn out to be a combination of El Nino and internal variability, declining aerosols, and a strong solar cycle: www.carbonbrief.org/...
