On a related note, learn from what happened in Minnesota, Chicago, and Portland, but also think about what your special sauce is. I'm a Minnesotan incandescently proud of how we came together as neighbors, but my wife is a native Chicagoan and BOY HOWDY did they lean into being loud and obnoxious.
We learned from Chicago and Portland. Yall learn from them plus Minnesota. All you fascists bound to lose.

My partner witnessed an abduction in the suburbs this afternoon so yeah let’s not declare victory quite just yet
I'll believe ICE has left the Twin Cities (and MN) when we have one day without someone being kidnapped. Already someone got kidnapped today. And what are "quick reaction forces"?
Tom Homan, the White House 'border czar,' announced the federal operation is winding down this morning although "quick reaction forces" are still operative, claims more local jail cooperation with ICE imposed. Gov. Walz announced economic recovery measures are being set up after damage from feds.

And I need to pull myself together in time to train new foot patrol ICE observers at noon today. Not to mention work & care for the other dog & the daily tasks of living. Man this sucks

More scooter pictures because I’m just really sad. She loved other dogs’ beds, sunbathing, fighting Lake Michigan, kale stems, trying to make friends with cats.

But truly the thing she loved the most was everyone she ever met. @tudehfruiteh.bsky.social & I were so lucky for a decade with her.

We had to say goodbye to our sweet old girl Scooter yesterday. Grief is the price of love but man it feels really heavy right now.

The city of Minneapolis, where you can genuinely say "but WHICH dildo related anti-ICE demonstration in 2026 did you mean?"
At Whipple where expired dicks are being thrown at ICE vehicles and those believed to be agitators. The area has been a place of protest since thousands of federal agents arrived in the city.

people are saying "neighbors" all the time now to refer to people who are not their literal neighbors but with whom they feel connected across lines of identity and even nationality—a "neighbor" is someone you want to live alongside, regardless of superficial differences or distances

There’s one that likes to stand in front of my basement office window & stare at me, moving its head up & down like an ominous slide whistle
The free-roaming turkeys of Saint Paul, Minnesota:

- are enormous
- don’t know where they’re going
- have no plans or motivations
- don’t understand roads
- or anything at all, really

Folks, the east side of St. Paul has been getting slammed by ICE and needs help. Harding High on the east side is like 50-75% vulnerable families and is currently feeding 60 families a week. Please consider giving here. www.gofundme.com/f/vvtc6j-rel...

holy shit
Agent: These guys were all threatening us yesterday with hand guns.
...
Agent: *Hand* guns, like threatening to shoot us.

Reporter: You mean like with hand symbols?

A: Pulling them out, trying to engage us.

R: Pulling out literal guns?

A: No. Making... assuming we were going to do something.

ICE culture is ostentatiously taking video of foot patrollers when you drive by, but only when there’s 4 dudes in yr car & 2 SUVs in yr caravan

The larger the group the worse their behavior. it’s only a matter of time until something horrific - beyond the baseline cruelty - happens again

I think if regular folks are donating hundreds of dollars to mutual aid in the span of a few weeks, then landlords could maybe have a heart and not evict vulnerable families in this time of extraordinary crisis

Friends make sure you’re reading this story to understand what happened (and didn’t). The cops didn’t insert themselves in defense of an anonymous resident. The spouse knew the chief of police who seems to have pulled a “hey do me a solid” with feds. Glad they freed her, but this is an aberration.

I haven't seen many people talking about it on here but: they're closing AGAIN tomorrow.
I think it says a lot that immigrant owned grocery stores near me are planning to close on 1/23. I talked to the owner of the one I’ve spent the most time at lately & he said he’s going to talk to the other businesses on the street, too.
These are real sacrifices in the context that the ICE occupation is already devastating businesses of many different kinds—immigrant businesses the most by far, but others, too.

It is a sign of this movement’s strength and unbelievably broad appeal and, in fact, participation.
