Americans' economic and political pains mainly stem from unprecedented concentration of our wealth, a few dozen mega-billionaires control 12%.

They buy a lot of politicians, media outlets, & influencers to distract from their power by blaming our pain on immigrants, DEI, women's careers...

Yeah, the thing is, Weiss had complete editorial control over the Free Press for years and if you read it you would not understand the threat to American society that Trump poses. I don't care what she says privately to her friends. She got the CBS job because of this acquiescence to Trump.

What an absolute embarrassment!

Trump has penned a deranged letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, citing the Nobel Committee’s decision to not award him the Nobel Peace Prize as the primary reason for him wanting to acquire Greenland from Denmark.

If we had centralized leadership in an organized opposition movement, we could work against all this insanity in a way that recognizes what we are actually dealing with, a hostage situation.

The mess in which the U.S. finds itself is a hostage situation.

Those demanding we just fix it don't understand the challenges of the largest democracy in the world running on an outdated constitution.

But it's a hostage situation. When do we escalate to a shootout? What are the acceptable losses?

People are thinking that Americans are somehow more stupid, which, having traveled, I do not believe. My low opinion of humans extends to all of them.

One thing I do think true, however, is that the amount of apparent insanity present in any culture is directly related to the level of religiosity.

I can't imagine dedicating my academic career to making bad faith, historically illiterate arguments that people born in America are not citizens.
Three generations of law professors making history up is enough.

Scholars spend decades researching and writing history with nuance and care.

American law professors will take a couple of months to relearn all of science to explain why the world is, in fact, flat.

I think it would be a good idea for D politicians to be declaring this publicly, pre-emptively. They should state it as an abstract, legal proposition: an order by the President to seize Greenland would be unlawful, here's why. Trump does not have the legal right to attack a NATO ally. Say it.
If the U.S. military is given direct orders to seize Greenland—pull down another nation’s flag, and then claim the ground in the name of the United States—every senior commander has a moral obligation to refuse to accept or support such a command.

I don’t dislike Ilan. I also think his paper is fundamentally wrong and not scholarly.
