I thought the entire purpose of tactile controls on the dashboard were so that you didn't have to look down while driving and could operate things by feel. Having to look at a screen and go through sub-menus seems EXTREMELY dangerous while going 80mph in a thousand pound metal coffin.

Exactly right. Even if you like something the government does in the moment, remember that your opponents can do the same if they gain power.
A government that can officially declare that Jesus is your savior can just as easily declare the opposite.
Here’s the U.S. government being officially religious in a country with no official religion.
