Artificially drive the price of gyre and gimballing up so that insurance companies could give apparent value for money on their policies across the wabe,

Delighted to have received my contributor’s copy of @bansheepress.bsky.social’s 20th issue.

ECHOES ON THE SEA is the final piece in the anthology — a post-Lovecraftian story about failing to end the world. Many thanks to @clarakiyoko.bsky.social for her excellent edits here. I’m proud of this one.

They're not very active in Bluesky, but Sci Fi Ireland (Ireland's first paid SF mag afaik) are looking for first readers and Irish language translators!

I've met the editors and they seem like a decent bunch

Gowan give it a go if you fancy getting involved
Ready to go interstellar with space control Sci-Fi-I on our journey to the future of Irish Science Fiction?!?

We're still taking applications for readers and translators but applications will close end of December!!

Check out the "Team" page on our website for info.

My safety net right now is that I work full-time and have a friend who rents me his spare room below market rates - which means the days of me writing a thousand words a day are long gone.

I'm lucky if I can manage 1k a week and that's with no time for finding agents/submitting to magazines etc.
My safety nets:

My partner works full time driving a truck for a big company that treats him poorly but he does it to keep our family cared for

What little money I pull in as a writer and ttrpg creative supplements our bills or helps with extras like KidCreepy's birthday and Christmas.
Here's mine:

I worked full time until my epilepsy kept me from working.

Work requirements in my state prevent me from getting government assistance, but I haven't yet been approved for disability.

I get by with help from family and what I can make from viewer donations and editing work.

Whose land this is I do not know
The statue fell down long ago;
No one will mind me stopping here
To watch the sand o’er ruins blow.

My camel friend must think it queer
To rest with no oasis near
And precious little shade these days
Gives Ozymandias, I fear.

(1/2)
This is just to say

I have looked on
the works
that were in
the desert

and which
you were probably
thinking
would still stand

Forgive me
they were trunkless
so vast
and so old
Once upon a desert sandy
As through winds the trav'ling man he
Spied the face of Ozymandy
Lying, simply lying there
Suddenly there was some writing
Pon the plinth that he was sighting
That the sand and time were blighting
Quoth the statue, "Now despair"

Happy Halloween and welcome to 718. First, we meet the four runners-up and one winner of our first ever Halloween Flash Fiction Contest. Then, a classic tale about a man who inherits a house and the dark history that comes with it.

I found a playground in the wastelands
behind my house, in Donaghmede
mighty humble and far from grand
a battered, tattered sign there reads
"I am OZYMANDIAS King of Swings
Sit upon my teeter totter and despair"
but the seesaw lies a broken thing
recalling joys no longer there
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings. Look on my works and let me know if you have any questions! 🤗

I was an ARC reader for this, and it's good stuff, especially if you want something that's kinda cozy and dark at the same time
The woman with a hungry flame in her chest, the potion maker determined to save his friend, the saint of truth’s loyal follower, and the god of entropy’s daughter band together to fight back against the dark plans of a rogue saint.
