If you have read even a single history of fascism, you are already aware that one thing that its rise has in common in every case is an opposition party that refuses to intervene for fear of looking weak or putting the left into power

I’m worried others adopt this strategy.

Creed: if you don’t give us a Grammy we WILL release another album.

Rob Schneider: you failed to award me an Oscar so get ready for Deuce Bigalow 3.

Chuck Lorre: OK fine time for Three and a Half Men.

This opens up wider questions about how far the UK and Canada in the 5 eyes intel sharing framework as well as other former allies of the United States can still provide the Americans with any sensitive intelligence information at all

Kinda crazy how much that photo of Lilah's taken off today.

I guess I must've posted it at exactly the right time.

I don't know if I've seen this commented anywhere yet about The Seance of Blake Manor (which is a great game if you like detective-ing and learning some actual real-world history and mythology stuff)

Having the priest character's name be Fr. Sinnott is *chef's kiss*

[Get it? "Sin-Not"]

Blegh. Absolutely wiped tonight.

The standard "changes in weather trigger migraines" applies.

But today there was also a big helping of

"Well-above seasonal weather has triggered an early temporary thaw. The downspout is current positioned such that water will leak right into your room"

Gentle reminder that EVERYONE shot by ICE or the police is innocent. Every single one. Cops aren't Judge Dredd. A person is innocent until proven guilty IN A COURT, so until a person is found guilty by a judge or jury, they're innocent. They're ALL innocent.

The UN needs to find another host country for their main offices.

They needed to do it a few years ago, but especially right now.
The US should be kicked off the UN Security Council.

Okay, look. @bandlegame.bsky.social... I generally wouldn't bother but,

I actually lucked into getting today's answer from just the drums, on a "I can't think of anything else remotely close to this tempo that's in the list" shot in the dark.

But looking at your written hint after the fact...

Apparently, there's a kid on my niece's hockey team whose name is (legitimately, I should note):

Maverick Wolf

Like, the most 80s-action-hero-ass name that I've ever heard.

It's a little strange this year.

Normally, we've always done our big Christmas get-together on Christmas Eve on my mom's side of the family (This worked out well for going to dad's side on Christmas Day when that side still all got together).

Me, creating a character for our D&D Group's Christmas One-Shot: "Hehehe... I'm going to pick a name that's going to deliberately cause problems, to be silly"

Later, during the one-shot: "Oh no! My character's name is causing problems! Who could have foreseen this?!"

Also: I see what you're up to, Kenneth Branagh.

Between his Shakespeare stuff and his Christie stuff, man's gonna be a permanent fixture in "End-of-unit/book, now we watch the movie version" days in English class.

So, between the Benoit Blanc series and the recent Kenneth Branagh Hercule Poirot series, I have an observation/hypothesis:

A decade or so ago, they might have caught a not-insignificant number of people and/or companies having to weigh whether it was worth it.

Now? Nobody in their right mind would consider it for a dying platform overrun with slop.

You know what I'd like to see in some sort of video game/RPG situation?

An irritation meter for NPCs.

Like, a lot of dialogue options essentially boil down to "Choose this to be friendly" and "Choose this to start an actual fight"

There have been many days when "Maybe putting a vent in here will help what surely is just a pressure imbalance issue?" has sounded entirely too plausible.

Entirely too "Well, it can't be any worse than the side-effects of [med], right? And even if it doesn't really help, neither did [med] anyway"
you can be the most reasonable, intelligent, measured person on the planet and 3 minutes of a migraine will have you looking longingly at a drill and considering whether trepanning was honestly that bad of an idea

Okay, one thing I kinda love about Stranger Things is how that, whenever characters get undeniably pulled into the supernatural upside-down bullshit, they all step the fuck up.

Like, it's pretty much only if someone gets mind-controlled/some such or is absolutely beyond irredeemable that they don't

Yeesh. Today's semantle was brutal.

And, weirdly, the answer word's entry on dictionary.com is literally blank.

The page is there.
There's correct origins, idioms, related words, etc. sections.

But no main section.

No part of speech, no definitions.
