Here are some magnificent, 200+ year old beeches.

First, an earthquake hit Alaska. Then it was a typhoon. People turned to public radio for lifesaving information. Sen. Lisa Murkowski tried to get her colleagues to understand the importance of stations.

They voted to defund public media anyway.
In rural America, public radio saves lives
In remote Alaska, public radio station KYUK is crucial during natural disasters. Without federal funding, how will it survive?

Anything supporting the rights of those who are not white, cisgender males apparently violates 'human' rights. This is fascism. Fascism. Fascism. It's control over the bodies of anyone who not white/cisgender/male. Trump and his cronies terrified of humans asserting rights that don't match theirs.
"Countries with state subsidies for abortion, transgender-friendly policies for children, hate speech laws and affirmative action policies will now be considered to be violating human rights under rules imposed at the [US] State Department..."

Cosmos bless and protect New York City Mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani. #SpeakTruthToPower
Zohran Mamdani standing beside the President of the United States just said that the US is funding Israel's genocide and yet can't take care of its own unhoused children on live television.

I never thought I'd see something like that in my lifetime

Behind this important reversal is a member of the Coast Guard who saw what was happening and had the courage to leak it to the press. That person deserves serious praise.

This is fascism.
ICE will have access to one of the world’s most sophisticated hacking tools after a decision by the Trump admin. to move ahead with a contract with Paragon Solutions, a company founded in Israel which makes spyware that can be used to hack into any mobile phone – including encrypted applications.

Censorship is a tool of fascism. Never capitulate.
This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

To interrupt doomscrolling, a visual equivalent of a breath, a moment of calm. A 'foto balm' of light drawn.

I made this photograph in November of 2019. Sometimes the sky beckons to be framed.

Always sharing any glimpse of good news. What a beautiful being. We must learn to be guardians of our planet as Indigenous Peoples are and protect the more-than-human from extinction (along with ourselves.) We do this by protecting our planet and working in balance and sustainability with it.
One of the world’s rarest birds has rebounded from near extinction after Indigenous communities in Bali committed to protect it under traditional laws, Mongabay contributor Heather Physioc reported.

In 2001, just six Bali starlings were known to live in the wild. By 2021, there were roughly 520.
