TIL that exoplanet discovery has been highly biased for systems with small-orbit "jupiters" because close, massive planets (1) induce more stellar wobble and are (2) easier to detect in transit, but ALSO (3) we just haven't sampled long enough to confirm large orbital periods

Elites are capitulating on the core values of the institutions they steward

This isn’t nibbling at the edges

A whole class of people who attained power and privilege devoid of duty and responsibility
In case you missed this, the BBC edited a historian's speech about Trump to remove the claim that he's "the most openly corrupt president in US history." This came after Trump had threatened a $1 billion lawsuit.

Elite capitulation continues.

Read all about it here:

Trump Angrily Threatened to Sue BBC. Then Things Took a Darker Turn.
First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

the awfulness of our media coverage is a smokescreen for what is the most (unimaginably) inept foreign policy team the United States has ever seen
3) This is getting lost, but this is the Trump administration green-lighting the principle that nuclear powers can now start carving up their neighbors—including those who've given up nukes.

This is all just a recipe for massive nuclear proliferation. (And yet another warning to Canada/Greenland.)

Every single tech leader should be grilled on how bad they want that money for themselves.
NEW: Donald Trump says he wants ACA funds to end after 2025

“I’d rather not" extend them, he tells reporters on AF1. "I don’t want to extend them for two years. I’d rather not extend them at all."

He wants cash to go "directly" to people. Unclear how that'd work.

The president said he prefers to let the Affordable Care Act subsidies expire on schedule at the end of December, saying if anything he wants the money to go to "the people directly."

over the last 10 years, anyone else had the experience of running a 90% or (much) better success rate picking obvious right-wing frauds, only to watch our elites run a cool 20%, max?

people make custard pies because they don't require knowing how to make a pastry crust ... you can even buy one

completely reasonable

but they also don't know how to make a custard, and that's why everyone thinks they hate them

like the pecan pie recipes that call for a CAN of corn syrup?

yeah

I think Democrats should double down on trans rights now. It's obvious that most voters don't care about it so you might as well stick with your principles and goad Republicans into focusing on it at the expense of everything else so they're the ones who look like freaks.

Not just that, we subsidize the car drivers because our taxes pay for car only freeways and on surface roads bikes don't contribute to the wear and tear of the road like multi-ton vehicles do.
You do know that cyclists pay taxes that pay for roads too, right

It’s SOOOO clear now that we got Trump because of elite failure, he’s still president even now because of elite failure, and the only way we avoid “Trump” in the future is to really hold our elites’ feet to the fire (perhaps get new ones with less real-life experience being absolute cowards).
