He's a loose cannon, dammit, but he gets results.
Canada’s economic growth beat expectations this quarter.

We’re diversifying our trade, building big, and creating well-paying careers — and we’re getting results.

Yeah, I don't think we need to restart those US trade talks anytime soon.

Canada has moved on, and we're doing just fine.

Ok, I gotta say, I really enjoy the time differential between Canada and the UK, because it means that whenever I get up in the morning, usually the first stuff I see in my feed is whatever shenanigans @zackpolanski.bsky.social and the Greens have been upto.

This one is particularly amusing.
Hope is here.

Everyone in politics, everyone in media knows what’s happening here: the White House is controlled by a repellant white supremacist who waits with bated breath for any opportunity to run nonwhite people out of America. They know who it is, what he’s doing. But they won’t SAY it.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

This is a solid analysis, and a good counterpoint to some of the more knee-jerk reactions floating about. Very worth a read.

"The MOU, then, is textbook Carney. By telling a political adversary what they wanted to hear, he’s gotten them to agree to something he needs. He’s effectively daring Danielle Smith to do the work required to get her coveted pipeline built, knowing full well she can’t actually do it. "
So far, Mark Carney has gotten two standing ovations and lost one cabinet minister as a result of his "grand bargain" with Alberta. The best, or worst, is almost certainly yet to come, @maxfawcett.bsky.social writes

Alberta NDP leader comes out in favour of the MOU.

Like it or not, the Alberta energy sector exists, and has significant influence on their local politics, regardless of party.

Improving standards on that sector while also requiring juristictional & Indigenous partnership is a positive step, IMHO
The new Canada-Alberta MOU is a positive step for our energy future.

Meaningful investments in Pathways, clear measures to reduce emissions, and a stronger industrial carbon price give Albertans the certainty we need to move forward. /1

This is weird framing, given that said deal actually strengthens the most important part — by far — of said Trudeau-era climate measures.
November 27, 2025 at 7:23 PM
I'm not mad about the MOU. It doesn't mean a pipeline is getting built. It lays out the conditions that such a project would have to meet in order to get federal approval, which includes BC and FN partnership. Sooooo.....never gonna happen?

This isn't Trudeau buying TransMountain. This is theatre.
November 27, 2025 at 6:47 PM
This is what it boils down to for me. Everyone is obsessed with the pipeline angle of the MOU, but the business case for building one does not exist, and is unlikely to ever exist under the current pace of renewables.

This whole thing is a massive exercise in face-saving and opposition management.
CARNEY: "If there's not a private sector proponent, there won't be a pipeline."
November 27, 2025 at 6:08 PM
From the news release:

"These projects will only be built in consultation and partnership with Indigenous rights-holders and British Columbia."
Premier Smith and I have agreed to a framework built on shared ambitions — to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, unlock the full potential of Alberta’s energy resources, and build a stronger, more sustainable, more competitive economy.

NS is (temporarily) selling US booze again, but don't freak out. It's just the stuff we already had on hand, that we already paid for. We aren't ordering any new stock, and the profits from selling the old stuff are going to Feed NS, apparently.

I still won't be buying any though. Feels dirty.
November 27, 2025 at 2:00 PM
The more I'm hearing about the Carney/Smith MOU, the better I'm feeling about it. Still waiting to see the text of the agreement, but it appears that it will include mandatory jurisdictional approval and FN support, which in effect means no new pipelines.

The PM is selling Alberta some magic beans.
I'll reserve judgement, but if the deal struck between the PM and Alberta is that a pipeline can only get built if there's a business case (which there isn't and likely won't be) and a buy-in from First Nations and BC (which there isn't and likely wouldn't be), then yeah this seems pretty much fine.
Once again, folks: any deal between Alberta and Ottawa that requires a) BC's approval, and b) significant support from coastal First Nations is a deal for a pipeline that will never happen.

If Carney can get Smith to agree to ratchet up industrial carbon pricing in exchange? That feels like a win.
November 27, 2025 at 1:44 PM
The people who think we can reach a fair trade deal with the US under Trump are fooling themselves. There is no deal, and there is no going back.

The only way for Canada to thrive going forward is to wean ourselves off US economic and cultural dependency. I'm very grateful that our PM gets that.
Carney: We know that this decades-long process of our ever-closer economic relationship between Canada and the US has ended. And as a consequence of that, many of our strengths have become our vulnerabilities, particularly in those industries that are most tightly integrated with the US….

Poilievre is just *so obnoxious*, it actually makes me physically ill. Just the epitome of every dipshit white boy who thinks he knows everything, and is desperately begging everyone around to debate his loser opinions.
This coming from the guy who literally had MPs hiding behind a curtain just one week ago because he was afraid he might accidentally trigger an election with all his rhetoric. 😆

If US officials were to actually grapple with the real reason Canadians are boycotting the US, they would then have to grapple with the fact that the US has fallen to a depraved authoritarian regime.

And we can't have that! Better to just call it "trade war tensions", and leave it there.
They refuse to acknowledge that a huge reason Canadians aren't coming there is because they're led by a man who gets off on throwing innocent people in Venezuela torture prisons and checking our phones at the border for subversive memes. It's almost fascinating.

Good luck to @aftynbehn.bsky.social in the #TN7 special election! A district that went +22 for Trump is on the verge of going Blue. Potential for an incredible upset victory, and a chance to elect someone capable of standing up against exactly the kind of sickness that Trump and the GOP represent.
“Governor, will you get the child molester out of the legislature? David Byrd?”

@GovBillLee: “That’s gonna happen.”

PSA: Lee did nothing. Byrd was re-elected.

This is why @aftynbehn.bsky.social protested. Republicans are attacking the hero in the story.

Watch. Share. Vote. #TN7
