Yeah to me this all looks a bit like Carney extracting real concessions (6x increase in industrial carbon price, methane cuts) in exchange for an approval framework for an imaginary pipeline with no business case.
A good compromise leaves everyone mad, and all that, but maybe not the worst bargain.

Seems like the MOU extracts climate commitments from Alberta in exchange for hypothetical support for an imaginary pipeline with no financial backers and no path to completion. Smith gets to pretend she saved the oil patch, and the PM maybe gets to defang Alberta separatists. Maybe. Tricky dance.

I get why people are nervous, and have a tendency to assume that anything that makes Alberta happy is bad news for the rest of the country, but I encourage folks to chill out a bit and wait to see what actually gets announced before tearing out your hair and rending your garments in the street.
