between 3 weeks of iready (fall/winter/spring) and 2 weeks of state testing in may, we're losing 5 full weeks to testing this year 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 (laugh to keep from crying)
In my district, students in English I & II took a full state standardized test in mid-December. They’ll take another one tomorrow. There was a two week break in between. Nonsensical. #EduSky

He is simultaneously a man enacting interpersonal gendered domination *and also* a state agent enacting violence against dissenters. Part of that is disturbing about ICE’s impunity is that it gives state power and backing to individual men’s grievances.

"pent up demand for rail options" also explains much of the success of Heated Rivalry
seriously though, there is very clearly pent up demand for rail options and every reason to build out as much new rail as possible.

ah but you see sam, if the kids get liver cancer that just means they were meant to get it and Nature is doing its job
This regressive move will literally kill people. It's making kids' liver cancer great again. And it's a sign of more harm to come.

If NYC was in India it would be known as The Friendly City or something like that, the gap in niceness between average NYCer and average Indian citydweller is like going from a gopher hole to the Grand Canyon
The friendliest, most helpful place I've ever been was NYC, contrary to it's usual depiction.
An important thing about cities is that people are often engaging while walking, biking, or taking public transit, as opposed to the car-centric suburbs. Cars isolate us and make us angry and unhappy.

Something I’ve noticed and that @johannawinant.bsky.social gets absolutely right: teaching students to focus long enough to build (on) an idea is a gift. It’s no longer standard, at least not in K-12. It requires safety and stamina, both of which are in danger in classrooms across the world.

Some people are very good at writing sex and some people are good at believing that they are good at writing sex, the first is a tremendously impressive skill and the second is what makes for deeply uncomfortable author presentations at science fiction conventions
There's nothing wrong with literary porn, but some of the crap those guys wrote was "Have you actuallly ever HAD sex?"

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.

me last week:

“There was, and is, no external crisis facing the United States. But for reasons of both personality and political ambition, Trump needs a crisis to govern — or rather, to rule. And if the actual conditions of reality will not give him a state of exception, he’ll create one himself.”
FLAG: Trump says he might declare a national emergency to keep National Guard troops in D.C.

"If I have a national emergency, I can keep the troops there as long as I want."
