This is a really important way if phrasing this problem for those who don't give a shit about the arts. Purely from an economic perspective, creative industries need protection from AI.
'the UK creative industries — which contributed £125 billion to the economy in 2024 and supported 2.4 million jobs — are being destroyed by an AI sector that... contributed just £11 billion in the same year and supported only 85,000 jobs." www.thetimes.com/culture/film...

A new report into the impact of AI on the creative sector makes for apocalyptic reading. The government must act now

“Children’s food contaminated with worms and mold, limited clean drinking water, inadequate medical care among allegations raised by migrant families in court filings about conditions their CHILDREN faced in federal custody.”

The cost of a fully-fitted out water bomber fleet suited to Australia’s needs is around $25m. We could fund that for 30 years with just one AUKUS sub down payment. Would come in handy on days like these.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

So much this
Dear @albomp.bsky.social - this illegal act of unprovoked aggression by the USA in Venezuela
must be condemned.

We must not be drawn, under the outdated guise of being "allies", into yet another war initiated by America - and in this instance a wholly illegal and unjustifiable war.

Where are our politicians, calling out these actions from our ally? WTF?

With Donald Trump announcing that Maduro and his wife have been captured and renditioned, this confirms that the US Government undertook an unprovoked political decapitation attack on Venezuela this evening. This is our 'ally'. #venezuela #auspol

The fact that I can’t say with certainty that Anthony Albanese or Penny Wong will condemn what the Trump administration has just done to Venezuela is deeply worrying.

We kowtow to the U.S too much, no matter which party or President is in charge.

There’s a sort of Dunning-Kruger effect happening where people who read widely, consider various perspectives, and put in effort to understand views they disagree with worry that they don’t do that enough, while people who don’t do any of that accuse others of being in a bubble and call it a day.

The man went around spouting hatred and hurting the marginalised. He was no hero, and he didn't do things "the right way".
Because, reminder, Charlie Kirk said gay people should be stoned. He called for a "patriot" to bail out the man who attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer. If that's "politics the right way," then politics the right way apparently justifies and condones murder.

So much this...
The murder of Charlie Kirk was criminal, wrong, and should be condemned.

And Charlie Kirk was a horrible, hateful man who spent his life radicalizing young people to embrace their worst demons by targeting women, people of color, immigrants, and the marginalized.

I refuse to sanitize him.

I disagreed with John Howard on a huge range of things, but I greatly respect what he and Tim Fisher did in relation to gun control after the Port Arthur shooting. To weaken our gun laws is the wrong move.

New Tasmanian MP Carlo Di Falco wants to loosen gun laws and believes the Port Arthur shooting was politicised. But he rejects “conspiracy theories” about the massacre spread by a former party colleague.

Hi, I worked at USAID. 👋

Airdrops are universally acknowledged as probably the worst and least efficient way to get aid to people. You airdrop when you a) want to want to so something but can’t, or b) you don’t want to do anything but want to look like you are.

It's nowhere near enough to prevent people dying of starvation. It's a PR stunt amidst a genocide.
6.25 grams of food per person. Six thousand two hundred and fifty milligrams.

One single, small bite of food.

I will fight tooth and nail on this one.
July 9, 2025 at 6:15 AM
The PBS is such an important part of the Australian health care system. If it is eroded, public health costs will rise (people will get much sicker, which costs more to treat, plus there is an economic cost in those people not being able to fully participate in society), and people will die.
