New study from Melbourne finds reducing residential speed limits from 50km/h to 30 km/h on local roads would protect cyclists from danger, make riding less stressful and get more people cycling while not causing traffic delays for cars.
Switching 50km/h speed limits to 30km/h would protect cyclists while barely affecting commutes, research finds
One expert says a cyclist hit by a car travelling 50km/h has about a one-in-ten chance of surviving, while at 30km/h it was a nine-in-ten chance

They should add a big jetty to the new stadium

I’m going to go ahead and state the obvious: introducing erotica to ChatGPT is going to lead to a range of issues.

Wayne hasn’t taken a look at a graph of wealth distribution recently if he thinks we’re closing the gap between the top and bottom 10%.

It's fascinating to me sitting in meetings with people who are unable to sit in ambiguity for any amount of time. As someone working in complex design programs, it's a core skill.

Queensland is screaming out for a distributed generation capacity and supporting grid. They have the most diffuse population of any state, which makes them least suitable for large, centralised generation. Wind + Solar + battery would work so well for them.

Not just covert subsidisation, but outright support with a conga line of coal & gas approvals.

Fears of an 'AI investment bubble' are a little like fears of 'American authoritarianism'. So obvious as to seem surreal that the topic is being raised as a question.

I saw your video of the Treasury in Petra! Very jealous.

We're approaching the stage of US fascism where churches build tunnels to facilitate escape from authorities.

One of the wildest things to see on older movies and TV shows - from the 90s and earlier - is someone walking into another person's home and lighting a cigarette or cigar. Nobody takes any notice (usually) or says a word. They might even go fetch an ashtray.

Despite all the evidence, people will still credit rich people with intelligence as a default.

Yeah, that line about an economy that works for people was more of a suggestion than a promise.

I think you're looking at this all wrong, Joe

I look forward to the day where a product review like this one includes - by default - discussion of the ease of repair, durability of parts, and use of materials that can be recycled alongside other features.

It took 10 years to build, but does it deliver the perfect toast?
A team of Australian researchers spent a decade developing a toaster that watches the slices for you, so every type of bread is done to your liking.

Some really interesting implications flow from this for low-carbon materials and global supply chains

Not entirely true. There were some very fine speeches made

We're sorry to announce that there are no solutions to the housing crisis that don't run the risk of impacting the rate of growth of property prices. All efforts are hereby cancelled.

Gets even worse when you factor in that the unrealised gains they're most concerned about are property investments inside super.
