NEW: DHS invoked the “national emergency” at the border to skirt competitive bidding rules for a $220 million taxpayer-funded ad campaign.

We found that a firm with deep ties to Kristi Noem secretly benefited from the deal.

the astonishing thing about this wave of denialism is that we have more or less decidedly hit the point where clean energy is the *cheaper* option by some distance
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

I would opt for the farm equipment route tbh
I find the phrase “makes history” nonsensical. Have you seen the stuff historians study? Just dropping an old piece of farm equipment down a well or accidentally freezing to death in a glacier gives you a good shot at the history books

The State Department had deleted history.

look... a decapitation air campaign is not a plan. anyone who tells you it is does not understand air campaigns (or plans)
I think regime collapse is possible, but then the million dollar question is 'what comes next?'

as much as the USG might hate Maduro, it's not hard to imagine a word where paramilitary and narco-capital end up growing stronger as a result of this
I think people on here are huffing hopium if they think the Venezuelan operation ends in Vietnam II or is a complete debacle.

We’re likely to see a very competent air campaign, that does have the potential of decapitating the Maduro regime.

I’m skeptical massive ground operation is in the works.

I spent a few years with housing as my main or second beat as a reporter and that is absolutely not why housing is expensive. Not even remotely why.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

"taking jobs from Americans" really gives away the game. This guy just hates immigrants and thinks they don't belong here, and can be treated as sub-humans.
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

The Gallup poll finding that 4 in 10 (!) young women would like to move out of the U.S. is striking. But it's also probably a symptom of a deeper problem: a lack of confidence in the American system and its ability to self-correct. www.pbump.net/o/the-subtex...

yeah, I think a thing that is missing from a lot of the ayn rand-ish "up by the bootstraps" philosophy is that the golden ages of u.s. 20th century growth involved boatloads of government spending on the people, and high taxes on the rich
It’s amazing that the people who are supposed to be good at economy keep doing the things that are not what someone good at economy would do. Usually, people having homes and good health means more spending. Making them broke and homeless might work too I guess idk I’m not a president.

I think I mentioned this last week but I lived in a hud house as a kid and is a big reason why my life worked out the way it did

helping people have homes is good, actually
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

say it with me: health insurance is market inefficiency
VA covered vasectomy and afterwards they've been sending me a series of not bills, I assume each new one is when the hospital tries to bill them for something else

Out of pocket: $0 (thank you taxpayer)

What VA paid: $1500

What the hospital is attempting to bill: started at $4K, now up to $50K+
so, today I got the surgery center where I got my deviated septum fixed to send me an itemized bill so I could submit to my FSA for reimbursement

my out of pocket cost: $473

what my insurance paid: $4258

what they tried to charge my insurance (not a misprint): $173692
