I’m a full time City Hall and politics reporter, but when I can squeeze it in, I LOVE labor reporting. And I especially love labor reporting that’s inclusive of and centers sex workers - because sex work *is* work and sex workers deserve labor rights. For a thread of my labor stories, scroll!
Latest update in my mouse saga. I hired a pest control company to find where they’re getting in and plug the holes. It cost me $1,200. The exterminator was nice but tried to evangelize my neighbor by yelling across the fence about the importance of prayer and how Mormons get the word of God wrong

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.
The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Just realized I hit two years of covering local politics, specifically the Spokane City Council! Here’s a few things I’ve learned:
1. Everyone hates declaring an emergency to bypass the regular public process until it’s for a thing they personally like.

Not to make it about me, but it’s very annoying to come back from vacation and find out the council had special budget meetings that weren’t recorded while I was off :) makes it harder to do my already exhausting job of understanding the budget…
If your boss was holding a public meeting about whether you should be laid off, would you want to know? Last week, Spokane City Council staffers weren’t given the option after they were kicked out of an unrecorded public meeting where their employment was discussed. Read the story now:
