2025 was mostly garbage, but there were some good moments.

One of my favorites was when a family of beavers built a dam in just a few days, saving the Czech Republic 30 million Czech koruna (US$1.2 million) for a wetland restoration project the government had been planning for 7 years. 🦫 🌿
These eager beavers saved the Czech government $1.2 million
After plans stalled for a new dam in the Czech Republic, eight beavers saved the day seemingly overnight. “At this point, nothing that beavers do surprises me.”

This is awesome
A little sports trivia: This is the first time in Seattle history that the Mariners and Seahawks have each won division titles during overlapping seasons. It has never happened before. It's been a good year for Seattle sports. Congratulations Seahawks! Perhaps they'll be able to win it all, again.

Oops goo...ps
In this moment of anxiety, please enjoy a baby goose falling out of an adult gooses wing.

Yes I wrote that sentence.

Yes this happened.

Yes it's ADORABLE.

No I don't think I'll capture a cuter goose moment this year. 🐣 🪶

⚠️Post-flood safety⚠️
Before re-entering your home, check for structural damage and watch for gas leaks, electrical shorts, and live wires. Use flashlights, not candles. Have a professional inspect systems before use and call your gas company to restore service safely. Follow for more post-flood info.

If you're in King County, please check out the Flood Warning System. There's an app, email alerts, and a phone line (with interpreters!) to help you stay safe during flood season. And if you are thinking about crossing a flooded road... DON'T. #wawx

I’m delighted to share my first feature for @magiccanoe.bsky.social, on how the tribe-led fight to upgrade salmon culverts throughout Washington state has led to a bounty of other benefits, including better wildlife crossings and flood-resistant infrastructure. 🧪 🌲

Wooooow! I got to hike Kilauea Iki not too long before the eruptions began in late 2024. One of the most special places I've ever been, even without fireworks like this next door!
OMG it just took out one of the distant cameras!!

Since it's too cloudy to see them tonight, I'm instead remembering how transcendent--overwhelming!-- the northern lights were from the hill next to my house in May 2024. So happy so many other people are getting to experience this right now.

Quality PNW afternoon. Went to look for salmon with my daughter at Longfellow Creek in West Seattle. We saw a couple of fish, talked about beavers and 6PPDQ (she was captivated by one of my related work projects last spring), and snooped under a very low bridge to scope out these tracks...
