People really don’t understand how bad Minnesota is at this point. The news is openly discussing the federal plans to use old Amazon prime facilities in places like Woodbury and other suburbs as fascist detention centers.

We are fully through the glass and people need to fully take in that reality

Kristi Noem has been a complete and total failure at her job. She has violated her oath and has allowed ICE agents to terrorize our communities.

That’s why I’m joining @robinkelly.house.gov in calling for her impeachment.

We deserve better, she’s gotta go.

the constitution has many flaws but addressing our current circumstances is not among them; the framers were in fact quite concerned about this kind of thing and were clear that it should not happen here

what they did not and could not guard against is the people in charge ignoring their plain text
As it happens though, the framers of the US constitution did say it: in the 4th amendment, the 5th, the 10th, etc.

What they didn’t provide for is federal immigration enforcement of any kind, only “a uniform rule of naturalization.” Nor did they give the federal government a plenary police power.
It goes without saying that in the US you’re not supposed to have a masked secret police that snatches people off the streets without knowing if they’ve committed a crime. That’s about as basic a requirement for a democracy as exists.

Are there any disabled/mostly housebound people in Portland I can connect with who are finding ways to get involved with 🧊current events? I feel so out of touch, realizing I’m still more connected in MPLS after 4 years living here, and following PIRC etc on socials is not enough

“I can’t think.”
“I don’t know.”

These phrases can signal cognitive overload in some children after COVID. Thinking slows. Even simple questions feel like too much. Long Covid Families offers guidance to help you understand these symptoms.

Case in point: Minnesota is a place where the aesthetics of multiculturalism are prized, EVEN THOUGH it has deeply ingrained racial disparities & issues. It’s not an antiracist place overall but bc it values that aesthetic ppl go fight for neighbors they wouldn’t have invited to their house before
We dump on aesthetics a lot, but they’re important. Part of what Mamdani is doing so well is building up an aesthetic of multiculturalism grounded in the values of sharing experience and interests across difference. This is a really important contrast to the cold, white individualism of fascism.

Here are some things that are completely optional that we can not do in this moment:
- lionize “real law enforcement”
- scapegoat mental illness as the reason for murderous violence
- normalize fascist ideologies
- erase the movement work and individual engagement that has built up to this moment

“Debates” on socials are like controlled opposition. Makes you feel like you have connected about something of importance when you haven’t.
Have an opinion? Maybe (if you have the ability) walk outside, find a neighbor, and talk about it. Talk about what you should do when ICE shows up.

The problem with ICE is not insufficient training or even training content.

It’s creating an agency where you give people guns and tell them to terrorize Brown people and then recruit people excited to do that.

Understand: these incidents are not an example of a failure of training, they are an example of a successful understanding of the true mission of ICE.

ICE knows full well that it's the new SS, and that it exists to terrorize and abuse citizens into silent compliance.

No training can fix this.
A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

The lesson Frey and Walz were supposed to learn in 2020 was that sending riot police to a peaceful protest creates a confrontation that results in some dipshit cops shooting people in the eye with a gas canister which then we have to goddamn pay for in settlements while also our city burns.

“The worst of the worst”. They’ve tested the waters for propaganda and lies, found them warm, and decided to go all in.
NEW: Data released by ICE shows that virtually the entire growth of detention in the last few months has been among people with no criminal record at all - no prior convictions (no matter how minor) and no pending criminal charges.
