Because they saw, and still see, America as something far superior to the tinpot shithole regimes we opposed. And there's nothing more insulting to them than seeing someone go and try to turn America into *exactly* that kind of country.
My boss is a Reagan Republican and has been enraged since this all started. I seem to remember being plenty angry at that group of Republicans back then but again, nothing like this.

It's important to name the tools of authoritarianism so we can identify and condemn them with precision. I'm glad we now have a term for ICE's openly racist, degrading immigration arrests: Kavanaugh stops. slate.com/news-and-pol...

The professionalism that our most senior military commanders exhibited with their silence today despite repeated attempts by Hegseth & Trump begging them to please clap was encouraging, & should be an example to all troops when they try to exploit them for partisan politics. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Trump to a room of generals: "I've never walked into a room so silent before. Just have a good time. And if you want to applaud, you applaud."

I’m calling for the complete disbanding of the FBI. They are no longer needed as politically motivated killers all seem to write on their bullets and leave such a paper trail, but just enough ‘ensure’ a proper investigation appears to be carried out.

Kamala Harris on The View on election night: "That night -- I grieved in a way that I have not since my mother died. The pain was not at all about losing a race. I knew what it was going to mean for the country ... all I could say over and over was 'my God, my God, my God.' It was very difficult."

Sober 14 years. Life is so much better
Seconding this for anyone who needs to hear it.
My last drink was January 9, 2016, and I got a LOT of mileage out of "I picked the wrong year to quit drinking," which was in no small part my Gen X gallows humor getting me through that brutal year.
If you need help, reach out. You're not alone.

Fellow sober folks, a reminder: However bad things get, you don’t have to drink over it.

Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.
Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.
