They keep saying shit like this but after string of layoffs one after another in the tech industry, many businesses are effectively crumbling from the inside out.

Technical debt doesn't arrive in staff cuts meaning everything turns off. It arrives as one person trying to automate 10 people's jobs and maintaining a behemoth by the skin of their teeth, for a little while.

But those 10 employees were productive engineers, and you can't innovate under resourced

It really isn't AI working or not working that is the problem particularly. It's what people mistakenly think AI is and what they're doing in service to those beliefs.

There is no explanation for this other than sadism.

Sadism is the primary job perk for these people. Sadism is what attracts them to the work. Sadism is what keeps them in it.

Their primary motivation is to indulge their sense of sadism and revel in their power. They must be purged from society.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Anyone who had genuine concerns about youth gender medicine would staunchly and wholeheartedly support social transition. Let kids explore their identities to see what works for them!

The fact that this movement opposes even pronouns and haircuts shows that it's just bigotry all the way down.
This draft guidance reproduces Cass insisting that clinicians must be involved in decisions about *social transition* which actually should be none of their damn business

They take the line that this "non-directive" intervention should force things to be "keeping options open and flexible"...

As a fucking parent TALK TO YOUR FUCKING KIDS THEN. Worried they'll see porn? Talk to them about porn. Worried they'll see gore? Talk to them about gore. Worried they'll get groomed? Talk to them about red flags and cultivate trust with them so they won't feel they have to hide things from you.
"As a parent, I am deeply concerned about what my child is accessing online. Albeit not enough to check or to install some very basic software that would prevent them from accessing dodgy material online. That's why the Online Safety Act is so important."

UK Labour is a case study in what happens when you prioritize winning over actually standing for something. They chased the center-right so hard they’re basically just the Tories in red ties now.
Any time I look to see what the Labour government is up to in the UK it turns out to be things like making posters that Alfonso Cuarón put in the background of the long tracking shot that opens “Children of Men”.

I think one thing people outside Minnesota don't understand is that after Good and Pretti were killed by feds while observing, the most normal people you could imagine have made peace with the fact that they could be next, and they are still out there because they say it's the right thing to do.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

In addition to the very aggressive and ostentatious shows of force by ICE elsewhere, they're escalating operations in places like San Diego and hoping no one notices, or that people are too overloaded to take action.

this is bad for lots of reasons, but not least--why the fuck are the federal bureau of prisons agents doing this work?

abolitionists are once again right: what we are experiencing now is a direct result of the carceralization of the nation--the whole fucking country is a prison now
We’re just not a free country.

Any American watching this play out between regime forces and journalists overseas would recognize it for what it is.

H2A guest worker visas are finally a big enough program that farmers are ready to switch to that instead of undoc'd workers.

That's why they're rounding up undoc'd people.

Farms don't really need them anymore, & they're "too hard to control."

That hasn't changed!
I'm calling bullshit on the media narrative that Trump is "pivoting" and "deescalating" on his ICE raids. The threshold is this: As long as the military occupations and the treatment of US cities as enemy territory continue, there's no pivot. ICE out. 1/

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
