Everything is so expensive that I'm genuinely offended. Clothes were so cheap during the start of the pandemic. Actual quality clothes! I should have bought sneakers in bulk back then.

One of my best friends was raised JW, and I asked him the other day if they believed in the devil, since they don’t believe in Hell. He said “Very much so.”

And all I could think was, “But where does he LIVE?”

This got me thinking….how do we as a society normalize pumpkin pie as a breakfast option at restaurants year round? Who will be the change we want to see in the world?
It turns out Mina and I have identical pie takes (literally had home made pumpkin pie for breakfast this morning before kids woke up).
So my pie take is there are no bad pies, but some pies have to be eaten a certain way:

1. Pecan: Always good

2. Fruit: Must be homemade. Otherwise bad.

3. Pumpkin: Best eaten cold at 7 am standing over a sink before everyone wakes up

In 1924, Calvin Coolidge's 16-yr-old son played tennis on the White House grounds w/o wearing socks. He got a blister and was dead from infection a week later.

This is unthinkable today—which is why I wrote this series. Cuz the systems that save us from this kind of fate are in urgent need of care.
For a yr, I've been working on a series for The New Atlantis about the vast systems that underlie our lives. Our ancestors built them up over decades to fend off hunger, thirst, darkness and disease. But too few of us know about them—and they're all at risk. The conclusion is now available online:
Why We Are Better Off Than a Century Ago
Our ancestors built grand public systems to conquer hunger, thirst, darkness, and squalor. That progress can be lost if we forget it.

Soon it will be time to make pie crust. But I am going to say this as someone who has been making pie crust since I was 11 years old. If you do not have the gift or the desire to make pie crust, buy the pie crust. Seriously. Buy it. It will be okay.

My mom used to bring this up a lot when we were growing up. She thought antibiotics were amazing and how fewer parents lost their children.

the “thanksgiving food is bad” discourse raises its ugly head every year, but the truth remains that thanksgiving food can be amazing as long as you know how to cook. the problem is we’re throwing a few million sunday drivers directly into a grand prix
I think this is unfair to turkey. turkey is good but hard to cook well because it is so damn big. turkey *parts* are great but lack the esthetic appeal of a centerpiece bird.
it is tired to the point of cliche to say if turkey was good, people would make it more than once a year. but it is understated that at least one American explodes every Thanksgiving in a brave attempt to make the main dish more palatable

I'm quote tweeting not as a dunk, but there's an influencer who got offered a free IV drip and as a result has been dealing with the flesh eating bacteria for years now.

A lot of these medi-spas are not well regulated and opening your arm to them has real infection risks.
Both of my siblings are proponents of the IV drip for general health which feels like… too much? My sister just had one to recover from jet lag. Am I in denial and possibly because I need an IV drip?

Next president can solve the jobs crisis just by hiring people to investigate all the sideways shit that went on under this administration.
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

I’ve been saying this in ways for years now, but I haven’t put it in writing very much. I don’t use these kinds of words lightly or often. But too much patience is part of the problem.

Please share.
