I personally don't think they have a plan, other than "stay in power." Because who doesn't want to be the person who can get reservations at fancy restaurants and get invited to the cool parties and have their opinions sought out, and if they're not in office any more, well.....
Even if they DID have a long term plan here, it doesn't matter. They're incapable of messaging it, they've earned no trust from any of us to believe they 1) want to win 2) know how to win, or 3) have the will to win.
And they've been abusing the folks we DO believe in for years.

The worst arguments I ever had with my father--who was reasonably egalitarian and modestly feminist--were about marital rape and if men were "owed" sex after a certain number of dates or a certain amount of monetary outlay.
Sarah Weinman's upcoming book 'Without Consent: A Landmark Trial and the Decades-Long Struggle to Make Spousal Rape a Crime' dives into a 1980 made-for-TV movie which tackled marital rape — before it was a crime nationwide.

Now this is a great YA novel.
Loving today's news that the mysterious "fedora man" outside the Louvre heist was actually a 15-year-old museum visitor who dresses like a 1940s French detective all the time, just because. apnews.com/article/louv...
Fedora man unmasked: Meet the teen behind the Louvre mystery photo
Fifteen-year-old Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux has become an internet sensation after an Associated Press photo captured him outside the Louvre on the day of a crown jewels heist.

Racism, past and present
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Hands up if you've never used Chat GPT ✋
(I feel like Dozer and Tank in The Matrix right now - at first I didn't use it because, rather ironically, I'm lazy and stubborn (peak Taurus energy there) - literally no, don't make me use the new thing I don't wanna. Now I'm glad I didn't 😅)

Probably a good way to tell right now if the job you’re applying for is run by absolute dumbfucks is to ask if they’re using AI.

I am but a lowly editor and I don't use it either.
A bunch of writer friends are noting that they have not used LLMs to write. Me either, absolutely not. I feel like we need to stop asking kids what they want to BE when they grow up and start asking them what they want to DO. Because: I am not here to BE A WRITER, I am here to WRITE.

Me, to an editing client: the hero cannot dispose of a body by dumping it in a pool in a creek. Do you want to kill people downstream?
(The villain could do it.)

See also: everyone takes their helmets off, day 1 on a new planet. 😳 In one of the Alien prequels, somebody washed their wound in a stream. Me yelling, “You can’t even do that on EARTH.”
when a show is incredibly good except the plot hinges on someone in a BSL-4 lab removing a layer of PPE while examining a specimen

if you're Jewish (and even if you're not) and you like Shakespeare and you're in NYC, consider going to see PLAYING SHYLOCK, a solo show starring Saul Rubinek. I was very curious about this show since I have complicated feelings about "Merchant."
