We also have a direct test of whether giving up all your principles to appeal to public opinion polling leads to widespread support with the British Labour party and the answer is not positive!
This exchange drives me nuts. Neither the interviewer nor Bazelon acknowledges that 1) abortion rights are really popular! and 2) what ICE is doing is hugely unpopular!

Train Dreams was the best movie I've seen this year.

Just beautiful.

Judge Emil Bove is attending this rally - and presumably in the crowd.

(… is he chanting?)
Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally."

The crowd in Pennsylvania then starts chanting "send her back!"

Every right wing federal judge of the last 25 years has tried to quip like Scalia and they are all terrible at it.

All the quads and a backflip in a single program is insane.

He's unambiguously the best technical skater of all time and I honestly think if he needed them he could start throwing quad-quad combos.

Democrats could hold hearings and bring these people in to tell their stories in a high profile setting, but they choose not to.
“Traumatized, humiliated, degraded.”

The nurse, a US citizen, 4’11”, 85 lbs, says she was following orders when she was dragged out of her car by masked immigration agents in Florida.

It was the 3rd time she had been stopped and told to produce ID.

It's really not an exaggeration to say that one of the most significant, intentional, and successful projects of the Roberts Court has been to end meaningful legislative elections in the United States.
We need to talk about the massive loophole that the Supreme Court just carved into election law over the shadow docket—giving states a free pass to enact patently unconstitutional voting rules within nearly *one year* of an election. A stunning new limit on judicial review. slate.com/news-and-pol...

The Court did not grant cert in any of the many 2A cases under consideration in its orders list.

The birthright citizenship question was taken up though.

I'm a bit less optimistic than many people in the know on birthright citizenship.

So there is roughly a 100% chance that the Supreme Court is going to rule it's OK to consider race in drawing congressional maps to hurt black people but unconstitutional to draw maps to help black people.

Labour, given an overwhelming majority in parliament, have done everything shitty centrists want and if things hold they won't exist as a political party by the next general election and it may be run in the country of England rather than the United Kingdom.

Prepping year end & many cities are recording historic lows in murders in 2025. Through November, Detroit (fewest since 1964), Baltimore (1962), Philadelphia (1966), Oakland (1967), & San Francisco (likely since at least 1942). Additionally, New Orleans is on pace for the fewest murders since 1970.

The idea that immigration adjudications will comply with due process (any.level of due process) after this is just absurd.
BREAKING NYT:

The Trump admin just fired eight immigration judges in New York City.

All the judges were dismissed from the immigration offices at 26 Federal Plaza — a building that houses the NYC headquarters of ICE and has become the epicenter of migrant arrests in the city.
