The perfect Metroid movie is directed by Terrence Malick and has practical puppets by The Henson Company, send skeet.
I still think about that @marioprime.bsky.social post about how the Metroid movie should just be shots of alien landscapes with Chozo poetry

Have had a working conspiracy theory for a while that Nintendo keeps making chatty side characters so that it can adapt its properties to traditional animated kids films easier. Talking Mario flowers, kid Pauline. Now, *theory intensifies*

I've been professionally critiquing and reporting on accessibility and disability for over six years. So how do you quantify what's happened in this industry since 2020? Read my latest essay for @polygon.com here:

The PS5 and Series X era promised inclusion, but the reality is more complicated
After five years covering PlayStation and Xbox, I've never felt more tested as a disabled player

I don’t know when it will happen, but one day, I know there will be a raging war between “physical games and necessary for preservation” and “physical games are bad for the environment” camps that ends all video game discourse forever.

Seeing the discussion shift from Pokopia of people being excited to the negativity is wild

I've seen it called an asset flip, having no depth and "should be free" all because of the damn Game Key Card.

Nuance is dead.
The internet is actually filled with idiots regurgitating BS from creators

BREAKING: Starbucks workers have launched a massive, nationwide strike.

Baristas in 40 cities have walked off the job on the busiest day of Starbucks' year.

Upwards of 12,000 @sbworkersunited.org members could ultimately go on strike as the union escalates.

100%. And I think this is intentional. I'm convinced Valve prefers soft power over hard power. They don't need to make THE hardware. They need the stuff they do create to start a trend. Why take on profound overhead risk when you can goad every other hardware company into doing it for you?
The very important thing to remember when talking Valve and its ceiling compared to, say, Microsoft, is that you can not walk into a Walmart and buy a Steam Deck. You have to be enough of an enthusiast to know what it is and where to find it. That's the #1 thing holding Valve back.

Absolutely. But, then again, by selling d2c Valve doesn't have to pay retailer margins.

Same kind of thinking had many publishers create their own PC digital storefronts to not pay Valve a cut to sell on Steam.

Maybe Valve will decide selling at retail is worth that cut, like pubs did for Steam.

The idea that Steam Deck would be a Nintendo killer was always silly. The idea that Steam Machine could be an Xbox killer is way more plausible. But it's entirely going to depend on whether or not Valve has any actual interest in doing that. Some snap thoughts. www.polygon.com/microsoft-xb...
Xbox is screwed
The Steam Machine could eat Xbox's lunch if Valve plays its cards right

(emerging from the writing hole not having seen a single take about Steam Machine) SteamOS on a "console" is a big fuckin' deal and it instantly puts the Steam Machine in a significantly more advantageous position than any previous attempt at the idea.
