joystiq paid me $2400/month to work six days a week and write 10 articles a day, and this was expected of me even when, say, review code came in for dragon's dogma, a 55 hour game, and i only had four days to play it and write the review on top of all my normal work. so yeah, context matters lol
A lot of people, especially ~us critics~, don’t like to acknowledge how much personal life context factors into whether you like a game or not. We’re not objective machines! Sometimes you’re having a shitty time all around and might hate something you’d otherwise enjoy.
I wish more people were open to doing this. Sometimes ur just not in the right head space afor a game. I’ve revisited games id earlier gave up on and added all time favorites to my list. I mean sometimes ur right the first time, but it’s worth the risk. 😂

Of the Game Awards controversies right now this one is the most frustrating.
When I attended via Future Class, I was seated next to an award-winning game dev. We were both on our phones. During a break a director came up to him, got in his ear, and said "seat fillers shouldn't be on their phones".

Devs were only allowed a few (I believe two) tickets per nomination before Geoff charged them. Resale tickets were in the hundreds. And we all know what happened to Future Class (if you don’t, read my piece).

I've been listening to The Comedy Button again from the top over the past year or so. Tonight I reached the March 21st 2020 episode & tapped out after 15 minutes.
Even just revisiting that week through the medium of a silly podcast proved a bit too much for me.
