I guess i should do a “games i finished” thread

Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind

Clunky as hell, some of the worst “guess what I’m thinking” gameplay since old clunky Sierra games, but i loved it nonetheless

Pacing ramps in a thrilling fashion and had no idea where it was going!
A determined looking teenager with a teen girl standing behind him looking worried. An older man stands behind them, hand to his chin, thinking. Above them all is a schoolgirl with long, wild hair, her face in shadow as she floats in the air

remembering back at an old job when we would talk to american work colleagues and say something would be done in a fortnight and they looked like they’d had a mental shutdown because they didn’t know what that meant

TLDR: despite what any big tech company wants you to think, you can leave their service anytime you want and you’ll probably have better options anyway

I ended up going over to Apple Music, and I used a third party web app to transfer all my playlists, but it turns out you DON’T EVEN NEED TO DO THAT because Apple has a way to do it

Other people have recommended Tidal as an option too

Also, your phones can just have mp3s on them like they used to!

It’s really easy, I promise

I did while, of all things, sitting in the hospital waiting room while waiting to hear if my dad was okay

Please rest assured he is absolutely fine (healthier than the rest of us, AS USUAL) and it was just one of those situations where you needed to fill in time

From what I remember Ron saying, that Monkey Island circus tent exterior had a bunch of custom code so it would reveal the tent when you walked across at the right time

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I really hope the ABC realizes what a gem they’ve got and regularly makes more series

ABSOLUTELY THIS

Do best practice of giving ALL your strings IDs instead of hard coding them, even if its a dumb gamejam game or you don’t plan to localize

PLEASE make string IDs

Unpicking hard coded text later is a NIGHTMARE

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH

To every young or aspiring dev out there, look, some free advice. (Older devs, you know better. 💀)

For any game you are going to work on that has any GLIMMER of possible localization. Or editing. Or anything involving writing really...

DO NOT HARD-CODE THE VO/NON-VO/UI TEXT STRINGS.
