Such a good thread
But instead I'm going to advise you to be like the goose in the meme, and always ask, "Efficient at what? Efficient at what, motherfucker?"

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

I propose we hereafter refer to tech company surveillance proponents as COINTELBROs.
6. I worked in this column while also finishing the final stages of our documentary on the Black Panther Party. It wasn’t hard to imagine COINTELPRO with an algorithm in a post citizens united landscape. Hoover would be vibrating at this kind of power.

Ooh, another one: spicy sardine or tuna pasta. Can of fish (in olive oil is nice but not required), heat it in a pan, add some pepper flakes and tomato puree, take it off the heat and add some crushed garlic, salt to taste. Mix with pasta. Glorious.
People sometimes respond to this discourse by sharing their easiest, cheapest cooking-at-home recipes though and I encourage this!!

Freezer beans! Cook up a huge pot of plain beans, just simple—plenty of salted water, maybe a bay leaf but no other seasoning.

Freeze them in straight-sided jars (like wide mouth pints) so you can get the bean-sicle out with a warm water bath, because who remembers to thaw anything ahead of time??

This week we remember those mercilessly murdered in the Holocaust. In their honor, let us fight authoritarianism wherever it rises, including here in the U.S. by standing with those brutalized by ICE, and speaking out against this horrific mass deportation plan.

"If the Minnesota resistance has an overarching ideology, you could call it “neighborism”—a commitment to protecting the people around you, no matter who they are or where they came from."
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

For those unaware, AFGE President Everett Kelley was a pastor in Lincoln, Alabama for 31 years.

Here's some video I took of him last October talking about solidarity, faith, and the power of the labor movement.

Even as as agnostic, it makes me want to run through walls.

Green Street Cafe in Northampton. I learned so much from their perfectly dressed salads and beyond-perfect brunches.

I shall be posting this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two posts diverged on my screen, and I—
I took the bait, I hit reply,
And that has made zero difference.

“But the wait times”, I hear the detractors of nationalised health schemes say, as I snag an appointment for a doctor at the earliest available time which is 9 months in the future.

Meanwhile, the smart play electorally for Dems remains what it has been for my entire life - find a standard-bearer with some fucking charisma, and turn her/him loose to savage the other side in a way that people find hopeful. Throwing trans people under the bus is no part of a winning strategy.

One small thing you can do to help fight the starvation and violence, support those inside Israel who are showing up in person day to fight for an end to the war.
We’re so close to our goal – and you can push us over the line. Especially now, in such a difficult moment, we’re acting and creating the hope we need. But we can’t do it alone. Donate: omdi.me/thefight4life (1/2)

Even if Hamas is in hospitals, you don't bomb hospitals.

Even if Hamas steals aid, you don't stop or slow aid.

Even if Hamas is evil, you don't punish Gazans.

Even if October 7th was the worst moment for Jews since the Holocaust, you don't commit a genocide.

I get why it's unsettling - you've just passed through 20 years of the largest generation in history responding to everything they dislike with either stream-of-consciousness babble or a 5000-word thinkpiece - but you HAVE seen this "Gen Z" stare before if you're over 40.

I am heartbroken by the news from Colorado where Karen Diamond, a victim of the vicious attack earlier this month, has passed away.

May Karen’s memory be a blessing and a reminder that we must constantly work to eradicate hatred and violence.
