Clown behavior. Payment processors shouldn’t get to decide what legal products you can buy, and the extent to which @itch.io has pre-emptively censored tens of thousands of titles is unacceptable.

Visa and mastercard aren’t government bodies, but they’re acting like they are.
Consume Me just got delisted in a wave of delistings on itchio. It's a semi-autographical game about disordered eating. It won the grand prize at the most recent IGF awards.

When storefronts start mass bannings, everything is threatened.

Not only is @itch.io removing NSFW tagged items from searches a shitty move that burns their reputation to the ground, they did it without telling anyone. So not only are they ruining people's lives with moves in this direction, but they're also cowards.

🚨🚨🚨 BREAKING: In a dangerous evening escalation of the anti-porn war on the gaming industry, indie platform @itch.io has banned a number of NSFW titles and delisted thousands of others.

Trans authors are caught in the crossfire.

MasterCard, Visa, and anti-porn group Collective Shout drove the ban.

People keep telling me that I shouldn't be mad at @itch.io, just the payment processors.

They are fundamentally misunderstanding why I was up until 4am reporting on this last night.

Itch is withholding trans authors' incomes. If you stiff my girls, then yeah, we have a fucking problem.

I'm sure there'll be other things that pop up (such as contacting politicians and payment processors). Still, if you're concerned about the situation with itch.io, Steam, and other sites hosting adult content, I would suggest signing this petition.

Mastercard: Sex Work is Work. End Your Unjust Policy.
Mastercard's new policy unfairly targets the adult content industry, making sex workers more vulnerable, especially Black trans women. It must be stopped.

Can confirm that most of the works by @radiatoryang.bsky.social, as well as my own card game (but not the extras, ironically) no longer show up in itch.io search results, much like anything else tagged NSFW, it seems. Good enough art for museums... But not payment processors!

Trans authors on itch.io, if this is affecting you, please share in the replies.
so itchio has shadowbanned any games tagged with 'nsfw', 'adult', or 'erotic' so they don't show up in searches, and several devs have reported that their r18 games have been removed from the site with no warning
