it wouldn't rly work, since if you give people steam keys their reviews won't count towards the final % of reviews and won't help increase visibility
people have to buy games on steam after they've been released for their reviews to 'count'

what's the best way to ensure your visual novel has a strong launch on steam?
i'm sure people would say things like 'make sure the art looks nice', 'get a fancy trailer', 'polish the writing', but you'd be mistaken

what you really have to do is make sure it gets a lot of wishlists on steam

i saw a post on here saying some games have been removed from steam in the wake of collective shout's censorship efforts solely for being lgbt, but i've not seen any evidence of this
does anybody have any concrete examples of this happening, i'm genuinely curious

anyway i feel like social media numbers are deceptive, i've released many vns which weren't successful which didn't even recoup their production costs, and haven't years later

i feel like soc media rly doesn't reward creatives for making a diverse range of works, it can actually be very punishing
for eg i write yuri and bl vns (and i sometimes write bxg too) but 90% of my followers on all platforms only follow me for yuri

ye even if you stick to one 'type' of romance story people will still prefer certain genres...
i think my darker yuri stories are my most popular haha so while my yuri stories do better than p much everything else i make my spooky yuri outperforms my cute & wholesome yuri

fortunately i've released enough vns that were decently successful it can compensate for all the stuff that wasn't haha so i am pretty fortunate, but i think the majority of my vns are less lucrative than people might think 😔

so idk maybe some people see my follower numbers (esp on insta) nd think "wow ebi must be a successful dev" but in truth follower numbers don't = success and like 70% of the stuff i make flops cause my audience isn't interested in it 😔
