I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

On the off chance there are university students or prospective university students on this app, may I highly recommend wandering into your student newspaper's office?

Here are my favourite reads from 2025. Really happy to say that the Giller and Booker winners were great this year. I read more more non-fiction than usual. Nice to see Ian McEwan back in top form.

Listened to these new records on vinyl quite a lot this year. All acts I’ve enjoyed seeing live, most of them numerous times. Jason Isbell is the only new one this year. Great show at the Big Four during Stampede.

Some great things from 2025:

-Graduated from UPEI (again) with a Master of Arts in Island Studies
-hosted my brother’s 40th birthday
-saw Wilco, Blue Rodeo, Jason Isbell, Stars, Sloan, Sheryl Crow live in concert
-built the new Lego Enterprise with my son over holidays
2025 was a wild (and often negative) ride. But let's not focus on the negative. What was one good thing that stood out for you?

I'll go first with a couple:

★ Had a great vacation with my kids in Halifax.
★ Had a blast interviewing Steven Mayoff on his new poetry collection
★ Biking with my son

Was lucky enough to get this new Hingston and Olson creation in my stocking; 12 stories for the 12 days of Christmas. Nice to start a new tradition!

Merry Christmas everyone! Thankful for the gift of stories…and good coffee.

I’m rereading my Hingston and Olson Short Story Advent Calendar from 2015 which is full of treasures including today’s story which was originally in Taddle Creek.

Sometimes you just have to begin again. After 10 years the annual www.hingstonandolsen.com advent calendar has changed format to 12 days of Xmas. Luckily I’ve kept the whole set.

The movie that takes place where you’re from.

There really can’t be another one because where I’m from doesn’t really exist anymore.
