One of my favorite LLM use cases is literally just asking it what the closest preexisting concept to a thought is.

"I have this idea, has anyone had this idea before and what's it called?"

It used to be REALLY DIFFICULT to reliably answer questions like that and I feel like we'll forget it was.

actually encountered a programming situation that switch statement fall-through allowed a clear and simple solution. It feels like a rare cryptid sighting.

Just discovered an "aesthetics" fandom wiki and yes I will be reading this in detail aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/Categor...
Aesthetics by Decade
This is a category that documents how aesthetic culture has evolved over time.

decided to try out tab groups in Firefox and wow it actually really helps my out of control number of tabs situation. My tabs list is actually very usable now

It is quite simply dishonest to describe TPUSA as a “free speech” organization and not even mention the “Professor Watchlist,” as NPR just did. Reporting on a crime does not entail adopting the victim’s views.

waymos love little alleyways, even if taking them means going the wrong way. Waymo engineers, scared of their creation, let the cars do this to keep them happy

I added the ability for GZDoom mods to interact with external programs and tested it out by piping a live twitch channel's chat into the game

the Liquid Glass design is another major sign that we are RVTURNing to early 2000s dot com era aesthetics

Seems like I can't go one conversation about online personalities/culture/politics without saying "audience capture" and "negative polarization" multiple times. They explain a lot everywhere.

@danabra.mov just dropped a blog post in the comments where he points out why RSCs effectively solve the problems a number of disparate technologies were created to solve (but can fall short). High quality content.

very overdue vibe shift going on with some centrist and "gray tribe" anti-woke writers re-evaluating their priorities and getting more serious with their Trump opposition instead of continuing to play nice with their maga readers

lmao all the past media referencing Elon Musk as a friendly tech figure (Star Trek: Discovery, Rick & Morty) have just aged another chunk more badly recently

it's genuinely surprising to me to see how many centristy people didn't understand what their anti-woke buddies actually supported. just painfully naive.

I briefly forgot not all languages have separate nullable and non-nullable types and got confused reading a C++ discussion about whether all pointers should be null-checked or not before use, because obviously you check just the nullable ones. The idea not all languages track this feels archaic.

automatic skepticism toward dark matter theories strikes me as silly as it would be to be skeptical of the theory that a paper bag is heavy because it has something in it that you can't see.

when using Next.js with Cloudflare Pages, use the recommended cloudflare/next-on-pages adapter, not the beta opennextjs/cloudflare adapter. The latter supports the next-auth library while you're in `npm run dev` mode but not with `npm run preview` or when actually deployed!

what is commonly called high decoupling is just a lack of object permanence

if eg i think this person who usually lies or says stupid things is lying or saying something stupid, this makes me a low decoupler

It's amazing to see modern technology decoding lost languages
Your iPhone (since iOS 17) has a built-in laundry tag decoder.

In a nutshell:

- Take a pic of your laundry tag
- Open photo in Photos
- Tap the "i in a circle"
- Then tap "Look Up Laundry Care"

Voila, all those cryptic laundry icons are decoded into plain, readable instructions!
