Bomb threat on Goodlander’s office shutdown businesses/traffic in my small city’s downtown one day after Tr*mp did the “seditious behavior, punishable by death” shit. That’s a big hit for businesses losing most of dinner time on a Friday evening. Especially on a night when Randy Travis is in town…

Youth Hoops Coaching Dispatch: Have been deliberate about NEVER using running as punishment. Movement should be framed as fun. Instead, we do fun stuff — IE. Losing team has to give the winning team a piggyback ride to the foul line and back. It creates stakes, but everyone is laughing and bonding..

This happened to me with Rent when I was in college. Hanging out with a friend who said, “wanna watch a movie?” And I said “sure, what movie?” And she goes “Rent, it’s about the AIDS epidemic in NYC in the 90s.” And I just said “okay.”
Have you ever watched a musical that you were expecting to be a regular movie when you threw it on? Pretty disorienting experience.

My brother is getting inducted into the NHIAA Hall of Fame Sunday at a luncheon in the town I live in… but I have tix to take my kids to one of the Celtics only afternoon tip offs the same day… Think I’m gonna just have to learn to live with the sibling guilt. Go C’s baby, love the C’s.

Great opportunity for them to work out what getting open, covering, and making quick decisions looks like with no coach input.

This is extremely effective. Kids get more reps. They also learn to self correct. And it changes the energy of the environment. This is important especially when dealing with beginners who are going to constantly make mistakes. Let them make mistakes. That’s how you learn.
Youth sports coaching tip: I’ve gotten into the habit of labeling a specific stretch of practice as a no interruption zone. So, no matter what, coaches are not allowed to interrupt the action to make a correction or give feedback. I aim for this block to be atleast 15-20% of the total practice time.
