I hope the UK does pass assisted dying today, not because I'm pro-death and a lover of suicide, but because I know that I would want that choice and right to end overwhelming pain and suffering.

I will say, Bluesky is a LOT better than it was when you needed a code to get on, there are way more active and interesting users than even a few months ago
Others have noted it but I will too: The big reason Bluesky is so hot right now is that the people who add value to social media - the frequent posters in specific fields - are here now, talking to each other and creating the "spectator value" that draws users and attention.

I feel like people have forgotten that the postwar international order was not designed by utopian idealists but by incredibly ruthless political leaders who'd watched one hundred million people die and the entire world be pushed the brink of annihilation twice in their adult lives.
I think that a negotiated ceasefire is inevitable, and the best we can hope for, but I find it frustrating how many leftists don't seem to understand the long-term consequences of finally killing the UN charter and endorsing the legitimacy of territorial expansion by conquest once again. Not great!
