my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Shabana Mahmood said "just because you have a freedom doesn't mean to have to use it at every moment of every day".

If the Govt places restrictions on who can exercise freedoms, and when, then it isn't freedom at all. Freedom to protest, to be loud and inconvenient, is the cornerstone of democracy.

I mean even then, a very high bar that a lot of Brits simply do not meet 😂
itsmattagain.bsky.social
Not in my experience no ahaha
itsmattagain.bsky.social
This is fucking ridiculous given most anti-immigration Brits can't even pass A-Level English.

That's an absurdly high bar. You do not need to know about pathetic fallacy in gothic, the role of Gender in the work of Milton, or Machiavellianism in 17th century theatre.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

The language difference is stark and I truly wonder how the journalists writing this stuff sleep at night.

The Lib Dems have, rightly, condemned Israel's genocide in Gaza. Here we have Angus MacDonald, one of our MPs, reposting and endorsing a statement blaming innocent Palestinian civilians, including 20,000 murdered children, for what happened to them.

He needs to lose the party whip. No ifs, no buts.
Screenshot of Angus MacDonald MP reposting an X post by Lee Hurst saying "Next time don't unilaterally launch a mass murder, kidnap, rape spree on your neighbour you total twats" above footage of devastation and ruined buildings in Gaza.

Breakfast is normally just toast and coffee, maybe fruit, adds nothing to the overall total really. I work from home so often cook a lunch every day as well as a dinner, so that adds to it but is still cheaper than buying anything out

I'm an ingredients house too, and it's actually shocking. I used to be able to comfortably do a shop on £20 including a bottle of wine and some treats, now I'd be lucky to get the same basket in for £50
itsmattagain.bsky.social
Food inflation is insane. Every single time I buy anything I find it hard to believe just how much everything now is. I've never had a highly processed diet and it seems that basic ingredients and staples are rising in price week by week as quality stagnates or worsens.

Nation in decline fr.

yeah man, trans reporters, whom the ny times derogatorily calls "trans activists" so that normies won't listen to them, have been reporting on ADF activity in the UK since 2018.

bigotry in journalism makes you late to the story.

Really important NYT investigation finds that the ADF has been working with Reform, 'courting the party since at least 2024' and that the British arm 'orchestrated Mr Farage’s appearance in Congress, reaching out to ask if he would like to give evidence on censorship'

Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.

Unusual times call for unusual measures. The Dutch government has not shied away from taking measures that infuriate Beijing when its security is judged to be under threat. Other European countries can learn from this.
