Vance is one of those blustering lawyers who makes assertions COMPLETELY unfounded in actual law with such certainty that people believe he is smart and must be right.

It's fucking insidious.

The key to civil litigation practice is figuring out who the unreliable narrator is. Is it the opposing party, opposing counsel, your client? Or is it you?

Not only who is lying, but to what end?

thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

I remember a brief minute when the nazis tried to co-opt the Celtic Cross, and i thought i would have to explain some of my choices. Glad the Irish didn't let that stick. I'm just honoring my heritage.
there are so many questionable and bad tattoos you can get when you’re young and stupid — i got an elbow web when i was 17 — without ever getting nazi shit, and people who know tattoos are going to fucking tell you if you get nazi shit every time they see it

I was once skanking at a Mustard Plug show in Kalamazoo, and there was this bigass mfer standing stock still in the middle of the pit - didn't get the impression he was working security or anything, just ... standing there not enjoying the show

I think about that when I read scold-posts

OK folks, here's the deal. Spotify is running ICE recruitment ads and has ignored asks to stop. It's time to tell them we won't stream fascism - by cancelling our subscriptions. Here's how to get started: indivisible.org/cancel-spotify

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

Am I reading this correctly: the firms that opposed Trump's intimidation tactics have suffered no consequences, whereas the firms that struck deals gave away $900 million while jeopardizing any work with clients who have interests at odds with the government?

There's a lesson in there somewhere.

I dislike "big tent." I like "solidarity." Solidarity holds on even when it's unpopular, which is dangerous, but it doesn't let people go. I distrust those willing to give up this group to get that group while saying "we need all groups." We DO need all groups; so hold tightest to marginal groups.

Today's "One First" explains why Stephen Miller is wrong that ICE officers have "federal immunity" from prosecution for all actions they take in their official duties, and that anyone attempting to prosecute them is committing a felony.

Supremacy Clause immunity is a thing, but it's *not* absolute:
186. When Can States Prosecute Federal Officers?
Stephen Miller claims that ICE officers have "immunity" for anything they do while enforcing immigration law. Even as an argument about *state* criminal prosecutions, that claim is overstated at best.
