Friendly reminder that a few sponsored registrations are still available. Priority given to black, indigenous people of color in high-income countries or those from low and middle-income countries.
Did I tweak nearly every slide of my regression deck in preparation for next month’s charity course? Only one way to find out!

Join us by dropping a 50 USD donation to World Central Kitchen or United Farm Workers. A few sponsored spots available. Details at betanalpha.github.io/courses/.

I think it's similar here in Finland, and starkingly different from back home in Costa Rica.

As an anecdote, in the math building (in CR) there was a janitor who called *everyone* Dr, because at some point some prof yelled at him for not calling him dr/prof
In Norway, you’ll be lucky if undergrads call you *anything*. Most messages or emails simply begin with, “Hei…”.

I’m fine with this personally as it’s the norm here, but it *does* mean I usually need to give “the talk” to more senior students who need to contact researchers outside Norway

submitting your AI generated position paper to the arxiv should get you immediate ticket to the icy pit of hell
arXiv will no longer accept review articles and position papers unless they have been accepted at a journal or a conference and complete successful peer review.

This is due to being overwhelmed by a hundreds of AI generated papers a month.

Yet another open submission process killed by LLMs.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery was released in 1997, about a character frozen in time in 1967. The same movie, released today, would star a character frozen in time in 1995.

combinatorics are never on our side 😔
the thing about this is that combinatorics are not on your side. you are probably going to end up running pretty similar recipes, as is the case here. in particular, two different pear crisps.

In 2016 Hinton predicted that AI would replace all radiologists in five years. Ten years later, why hasn't it happened? This post is a great explainer.

AI isn't replacing radiologists
Radiology combines digital images, clear benchmarks, and repeatable tasks. But demand for human radiologists is at an all-time high.

Sorry guys, I know you don't like it, but every time you talk to a statistician, you realize how useless traditional stats is at conveying any idea about causal inference.
