Civil servant, Wales. Big Star Trek fan and overall nerd. "Who you are from moment to moment is just a story." He/him.
You know, brain, today was meant to be a day off to rest. We didn’t have to read those two things that came out this morning today. Could have waited until tomorrow. But no, got to chase that dopamine. Ta.

@paramountplusbr.bsky.social There’s an audience for a Star Trek: Prodigy Art Book. Consider honoring the intent of that series’ aim to build a younger audience with a celebration of the series cinematic art direction. #StarTrek

I find myself in the diffuse dark matter halo, which is probably about right.
I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

Gates McFadden told a great story at a Star Trek convention I went to as a kid about Kermit goofing around with her props on a break between takes during her scene in “Muppets Take Manhattan” and finally she goes “KERMIT, STOP THAT!”, like straight to the frog, and the whole crew lost their shit
This is entirely correct / back in the day I was picked to ask Kermit a question at a Thing (all the questions were scripted but askers were allowed to embellish a little) and in the moment I was absolutely talking to Kermit, who is real.
the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style

Time to watch the biathlon. Having a little cry because it was one of my mum’s favourite events and she’s not here to watch it. We’d always watch a couple of World Cup events when I was up for Christmas.

Alright, where are my gifted kids at? You were smart and you never had to study and then you went to college and suddenly had to learn a new skillset overnight, that everybody else had years to learn, or flame out spectacularly?

That’s what talent is like.
In my experience, talent is a *detriment* to learning.

I didn't have to practice early on so I *didn't know how*. I didn't start to learn how to practice until my 30s! (When much of my life was taken up with parenting, so I didn't have time!)

I didn't start to improve as a musician until my 40s!
I'm going to say this again in case you haven't heard this one: I was a talented writer and it did *nothing whatsoever* because I hadn't put in the work, and I put in the work for ten years (subtracting the bit where I had to quit for my mental health) to write Witchmark

talent alone could *never*

I loved Starfleet Academy again this week. I hated that Paramount+ kept refusing to let me watch the end credits.

The only issue with watching the Winter Olympics is that I am very light-sensitive at the moment and everything is very white for some reason.

It's finally here! The supercut of Smol Paul's iconic yeets you've been asking for for years. I don't have the time or talent, all credit goes to @rainsurname.bsky.social who is quite frankly a genius. The music choice is 👌
