When the Hong Kong fire occurred, initial international media coverage focused on bamboo scaffolding. This Orientalised and exoticised the tragedy, obscuring the fact that it was not just an accident, but an outcome shaped by long-term neglect and inequality, writes @tingguowrites.bsky.social.

This creates an environment where genuine creativity and talent are harder to foster/grow and artists are treated as merchandise/commodities.
Then there's the issues with Chinese fandom which can get really toxic/competition between artist fans can get cutthroat/nasty with bulk buying/harassment, etc. There's also the issue of political weaponization, fandoms reporting idols to authorities for perceived unpatriotic violations, etc.
Doesn't mean China has no talented musicians just that due to the way the system is structured (fewer venues of expression, creativity constraints, how fandom works, etc.) fewer Chinese artists are able to "break out" internationally. China has pockets of vibrant indie music just not seen outside.

China's dance/rave clubs are dying. No money, fewer foreigners/younger generation don't patronage them as much so they close. Same is China's music industry which used to be vibrant but the creative spirit is dying/most stuff produced now are garbage hence C-pop not as influential as K-pop/J-pop.

I don't know much about the underground dance scene in China – the music scene I follow is very different – but I thought this article gave an interesting view of a less visible part of contemporary Chinese culture.
