Trump's big, ugly budget megabill gives ICE more agents than the FBI, more jails than the federal Bureau of Prisons, and a larger budget than most countries' militaries.

It does this by stripping food away from children, the disabled, and the working poor.

Not one more penny.

After a string of ICE murders, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries proposed reforms — and $11 billion more for ICE.

Including reconciliation bill funding, the Schumer-Jeffries plan would give ICE a $30 billion budget, higher than all but 15 militaries worldwide:

This is exactly what happens with numbers-based goals and incentives for deportation. Especially when those quotas are based on a darkly distorted fantasy that the USA is somehow being overrun by vast numbers of violent and dangerous immigrants who contribute nothing to society.

Metry and her husband of 4 years go to DHS to get their I-130 in motion. "Good news" a DHS employee told them, the form to start her naturalization was approved.

DHS employee asks the husband to follow him through a secure door. When it locks behind him, ICE detains his wife to deport her.

EXCLUSIVE: Terez Metry was 13 when her family fled to Tennessee from Egypt in 2011. Then, they left her behind. She only recently discovered she had an order of removal from 2011. But she was following the legal path to citizenship. On Monday, at a routine DHS meeting, Metry was detained.

HALLUCINATED CASES ARE GOOD LAW Robert Anderson* Abstract This article challenges the prevailing view that Al-generated "hallucinated" legal cases—fictitious precedents invented by large language models—are "bad law." Indeed, this article argues hallucinated cases are "better law." Drawing on Ronald Dworkin's theory of law as integrity, which posits that ideal legal decisions must "fit" existing precedents while advancing principled justice, this article argues that these hallucinations represent emergent normative ideals. AI models, trained on vast corpora of real case law, synthesize patterns to produce rulings that optimally align with underlying legal principles, filling gaps in the doctrinal landscape. Rather than errors, they embody the "cases that should exist," reflecting a Hercules-like judge's holistic interpretation. Through case studies of AI outputs in contract and constitutional law, this article demonstrates how hallucinations enhance fit by resolving inconsistencies in actual jurisprudence. Ultimately, embracing these as authority could enrich legal evolution, provided safeguards against misuse, fostering a dynamic, integrity-driven common law in the Al era.

This is like a scene out of Monty Python.

ICE agents get a name back from face recognition and multiple agents start calling out "Maria! Maria!" to see if a woman in custody reacts. (Presumably if she does that's a match???)

It didn't work, so they ran the app again and got another name.
In Oregon testimony last year, an agent said two photos of a woman in custody taken with his face-recognition app produced different identities. The woman was handcuffed and looking downward, the agent said, prompting him to physically reposition her to obtain the first image. The movement, he testified, caused her to yelp in pain. The app returned a name and photo of a woman named Maria; a match that the agent rated “a maybe.” Agents called out the name, “Maria, Maria,” to gauge her reaction. When she failed to respond, they took another photo. The agent testified the second result was “possible,” but added, “I don’t know.” Asked what supported probable cause, the agent cited the woman speaking Spanish, her presence with others who appeared to be noncitizens, and a “possible match" via facial recognition. The agent testified that the app did not indicate how confident the system was in a match. “It’s just an image, your honor. You have to look at the eyes and the nose and the mouth and the lips.”

To the extent they would “sully” his reputation more than his previously disclosed disgusting text messages already have, it is a fully deserved self-imposed sullying. Marimar Martinez had no say in being branded as a “domestic terrorist” by her government. The Government drafted those words. The Government sent those words out to the world. Unlike Exum, she never had a say in the things being written about her, as opposed to Exum having had full say in the things he chose to write and disseminate.
