If you’ve paid any attention to Trump, you can plainly see he’s terrified of dying. His death marks the obliteration of the only thing he’s ever thought about.

This sudden obsession with the afterlife sure is, uh, notable. Doubly so now that he thinks he’s bound for hell.

President Trump tells reporters aboard Air Force One that he doesn’t think he’s going to get into heaven.

“I don’t think there’s anything that’s going to get me into heaven.”

(I isolated Trump’s voice)

One consequence of Netflix putting out so much slop is that the geniunely good stuff they do put out gets overshadowed. ‘Midnight Mass’ was geniunely really good, the first ‘religious horror’ series that took the ‘religious’ part actually seriously, rather than just using it as an aesthetic.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Caitlin Flanagan never reckons with the actual critiques of Bari Weiss, creating strawomen like the idea that Bari's critics merely believe she doesn't have "enough experience" rather than pointing out that Bari's journalism is so well paid for because it is tailored to the egos of billionaires
When there’s a big media story like this, everybody eats. The haters write hateful stories; the hateful stories alert new readers to the existence of an outlet they might like, and instill in those readers a fierce loyalty to it because the criticism is so absurd. A current beef against Weiss is that she’ll fail because she lacks broadcast experience. The beef against Weiss when she left the Times was that she would sink into obscurity. And the beef against her when she started to become successful was that she was selling out. If there’s one person in the world I wouldn’t bet against now, it’s Bari Weiss.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Today in Portland, a fed shooting pepper balls from the roof of the ICE facility was so eager to aim for people’s heads, that after shooting one photographer in the head and another in the upper arm, they accidentally shot a DHS agent in the head. This photo shows the moment of impact;

This is infuriating. She excuses the orders as "preliminary," but that's an argument for applying settled law or preserving the status quo. Allowing POTUS to disregard Congressional appropriations and fire independent agency heads are neither, they're a radical restructuring of Constitutional order.

the virtue signalling vs. not discussion just strikes me as a social drama that makes sense within the class of people that don't think they have anything else at stake in these discussions other than clout, some of whom also can't imagine any other way of relating to these discussions

More judges speak to the press (the NYT) about what a disaster the Supreme Court (specifically the shadow docket) has been - “incredibly demoralizing & troubling”; a “judicial crisis”; a “slap in the face to district courts.” www.nytimes.com/2025/10/11/u...
