"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

I was watching a few episodes of a show on Animal Planet, when ads featuring Kristi Noem began airing. She was telling Latinos that it was time for them to self report if they're in the US illegally. She claimed that 1/2

Mike’s having a discussion at the wrong level of analysis.

What’s needed now is not slogans. What is needed is action.
This will probably get me yelled at, because I can see the consensus forming here that "strong floors, no ceiling" is the dumbest of all possible slogans. I would argue that it's actually not that bad, but that it's wrong for this moment (please read 🧵before yelling at me)...

The error can be seen here too. Klobuchar fundamentally doesn’t think that this is an emergency.

South Korean legislators took to the streets. Democratic leaders are twiddling their thumbs and pretending this is a normal time and they can wait till midterms while Trump starts wars.
Klobuchar: "If they don't want to do anything about people's costs and their grocery bills and their healthcare, and pummel them with these punishing Trump tariffs, then we will simply have to beat them in the midterms."

I can't actually tell if this guy is lying or not bcs this is about the level of understanding of one's health I see from old men who let their wives handle everything bcs patriarchy.
Reporter: Governor Walz called for the release of your MRI results

Trump: They were perfect like my phone call where I got impeached.

Reporter: Can you tell us what they were looking at?

Trump: I have no idea. It was just an MRI. It wasn’t the brain because I took a cognitive test and aced it.

Told y'all he'd end up the fall guy.
Reporter: If there were a second strike that killed wounded people, would that be legal?

Trump: I don’t know that happened and Pete said he did not even know what people were talking about. I wouldn’t have wanted a second strike. The first strike was very lethal. It was fine.

"Republicans won't vote for it." "But the Supreme Court..." etc. etc.

These things aren't savvy realism. They're nihilistic defeatism, indistinguishable in substance and effect from outright support for Trumpism. Human institutions are not immutable facts of nature. We make and we can remake them.

While this usually isn't the intent, "no one will ever be held accountable for this" doomerism is an excuse not to try.

There'll be at least some accountability if enough Americans work for it. And this time really is different. Doesn't guarantee the aftermath will be, but it increases the chances.

If only the people who tell us "they will never impeach" could gather, see how vast their numbers are, and realize the immense power they could wield if they stood up with us and said to this admin, "ABSOLUTELY NOT."

This time is, indeed, different.

What's the opposite of collective doomerism?

Every time I see these boycott calls I think about how the Montgomery Bus Boycott worked bcs the community made sure no one was left without a way to get to work or school. Everyone carpooled, it was a very coordinated fight against one entity and that's why it worked and these general ones dont.

I have now noticed at least 4 spelling or grammar mistakes in this thread that only prove my point. I try as hard as I can with alt text but I have also seen several blind/low vision people say that a bad alt text description is worse than just not having one at all and I can't offer consistent-
I really wish this site let you edit posts. I often will post when my disabilities are acting up in a way that writing alt text is impossible, but then I can't come back later when I feel better and fix it. If this site truly wants to be inclusive it needs to focus on all disabilities, not just one.

Yep, and union backed strikes do the same - they have strike funds to keep as many employees afloat for as long as possible, they have plans in place to take care of their own.

If someone isn't gonna help me get my necessary items - I can't participate in their boycott and that's on them.

also: it was also planned as a test case. the president of the local NAACP chapter had been looking for a court battle to challenge segregation on buses. everything was deliberate, and it also had the backing of the UAW. Jo Ann Robinson had been maneuvering the WPC for the fight since 1950 too.

If you want a boycott to work you have to actually make sure the people participating have a way to have their needs met. Asking them to boycott without that help is asking them to give up eating or hygiene or wearing shoes that don't have holes in them. At least be aware of that.
