Indeed, perfect shouldn't be the enemy of good and everyone is different. I don't enjoy stories where disabilities are magically cured, but others find that patronizing. We aren't monoliths, but that does also mean making space for people who cannot provide alt text due to their disabilities.

Wanted to add actually, the thing I saw used as an example was the opposite, it was a paragraph or two of text for a picture of a cat sleeping on a couch. They said keep it short and focus on what's important. Which is also hard for me bcs, as my threads prove, I am abysmal at keeping things brief.

I mean, ig what gets me is the people I see pushing hardest on the "alt text or bust" aren't blind or low vision or even disabled at all in some cases. I figure the people who need alt text don't mind some wonky descriptions, but the loudest voices I've seen do not offer any grace to anyone on this.

And not his isn't always just a few mispellings, I routinely spell words for wrong that autocorrect doesn't even know what I'm trying to spell. When I say incomprehensible I'm not kidding. Or don't notice that any mistakes until way later and someone is mad over something I didn't mean to say.
