"But worse fate will await people at the coasts everywhere if the world keeps burning fossil fuels- less than two versus eight feet of sea level rise within a lifetime. The first situation might just be manageable. The other will surely be catastrophic."

Ramping up industrial carbon pricing to "a minimum effective credit price of $130/tonne" is potentially a huge deal and the biggest silver lining here, but "ramp up" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this MOU. Basically, #AB gets to pollute more now in exchange for speculative future reductions.

This is the Douglas Channel where Danielle Smith expects massive oil tankers to navigate oil safely from Kitimat to markets in Asia.
This is also where even ferries run aground in shallow water and high windspeeds FFS.
This is why we have a BC moratorium on oil tanker traffic.

The federal-AB agreement is a love letter to fossil fuels

-cancelation of critical policies (OG emissions cap & clean electricity rules)
-public $$ for a pipeline (via Indigenous loan program)
-more $$ for CCS, incl. enhanced oil production
- only mention of electricity is for fossil fuels

Brazil approves the first vaccine against dengue. The disease killed 6000 Brazilians in 2024.

This is a really remarkable achievement. I got dengue in 2015, and even with the mild case I had, it was a really miserable experience.

Critics of renewable energy often claim that these technologies are making the world’s electricity grids more vulnerable to power outages.

However, global data doesn’t support the sceptics’ claims. In fact, there's evidence that the opposite is true.

Fact check: Do renewables really make electricity grids less reliable?
In Germany, power availability to homes and businesses has increased over the years – even as the share of renewables has climbed.
