The reason ACAB and Defund failed in 2020 is because average people like that there are cops and believe them (correctly) to be a necessity in a functioning society. People in every town know cops like they know teachers. ICE agents are a foreign goon squad to most and feel like an invading army.
part of the reason I’m bullish on formal anti-ICE messaging and don’t anticipate a cooling off of the sentiment like “defund the police” is that there’s no ICE equivalent to this. the police, for whatever you think of them, are something people consider part of daily life. ICE isn’t like that!

periodically I'll see a backlash that goes a little too far or seems kinda unfair. i never say anything because i think we need to be kinda unhinged and zealous in our response to this shit. I'd take an honest-to-God crusade against this stuff over letting it proliferate.
