We caught the UCP red-handed.

We asked Public Safety & Emergency Services for any correspondence between Min. Ellis & the Edmonton Police Commission.

They told us - twice - there was none.

We asked the Commission & got 130 pages including 5 letters signed by Ellis. #abpoli

Raise your hand if you knew that MLAs had the ability to pull voter records to use to smear people like this. Even we did not know this was possible.
Dale Nally's recall petitioner says he doesn't listen to constituents and cites his concerns over the notwithstanding clause.

Nally responds by saying the petitioner doesn't vote and works as a proxy for a group weaponizing the recall act and the petition has no merit.

Regardless of global agreements, climate resilience is ultimately built in neighbourhoods with the people who live and work in them. For towns across the Netherlands, that requires a collaborative regreening effort between the municipality and community. #ActionStartsHere @mayors4climate.bsky.social

The UCP has invoked the notwithstanding clause pre-emptively. Again. This time to strip the Charter rights of trans children and adults.

This is sadly and entirely predictable from a populist government bent on removing checks on its power. 🧵

Folks have been telling me they’ve noticed I’ve gotten “a lot more political” on social media this year.

Of course I have.

The circumstances have gotten nightmarishly worse, and the consequences of inaction and staying silent infinitely more obvious.

Everyone needs to get “a lot more political.”

Two things can be true at the same time, Canada.

1. Yes, I’m disappointed with some of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s approaches so far, particularly around climate action, and his definations of “nation-building.” We should expect better.

2. Carney is still light-years better than Pierre Poilievre.

The United Conservative Party government recently awarded a $95-million settlement to the Australian mining firm Montem Resources.

About a third of that settlement will go to an investment firm in Melbourne. The same firm that funded Montem’s lawsuit against Alberta.

Andrew Nikiforuk writes.

Two firms that invested far less are getting $235 million. Taxpayers face more such hits.

What the Alberta government just did should worry all Canadians.

When they legislated striking teachers back to work, they went a step further:

They used the notwithstanding clause.

This is part of a worrying trend.

AB, ON, NS, maybe others too? The urban vs suburban/exurban/rural divide increasingly seems like the most important fault line in Canadian politics. And it's revealing the flaw in a constitution that doesn't recognize municipal governments.
