Thread on CDC shooting👇...

Good morning.

Yesterday, after hours of hiding, trying not to make a sound, we stepped outside and saw massive bullet holes in our office windows.

Those weren’t random shots. That was a high-powered weapon no civilian should ever own.

I missed this earlier.

Very compelling letter of resignation from former head of the Executive Secretariat (which handles high-level communications for NIH Director and others) at NIH.

This is one righteously angry ex-Marine.

Sick of me yet??? I WILL STOP WHEN I SEE 1000 TEACH INS ON THE MAP.

🧐 Did you know you can (and should) invite every last one of your elected officials to your teach in?

ESPECIALLY if you are in a red area.

Why? Because you’re a constituent and they are putting your livelihood at risk.

real heroes use duct tape
Robert “Ed” Smylie, the NASA official who saved the Apollo 13 crew in 1970, has died at 95. He cobbled together an apparatus made of cardboard, plastic bags and duct tape after an explosion crippled the spacecraft as it sped toward the moon. nyti.ms/3Sbusb3

This is such an important shift. For many years the catholic church withheld support for HPV vaccination which prevents cervical cancer.
119,000 women die from this cancer in Africa every year.
This full throated support of the HPV vaxx by the church will help uptake.

This needs to be front page news and needs to be reversed. Antibiotic resistance is a public health crisis IN THE US
Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab

There's been so many NSF updates within the past 48 hours that it's hard to keep track.

It feels like an onslaught. It *is* an onslaught. But it's still vital to remain focused, organized, and strategic.

I am hearing from several sources that "NIH" sent out termination notices for most or all "diversity" awards yesterday to coincide with the new Notice.

If you were affected by this and are willing to share, please DM me or reach me on Signal (jeremymberg.78)

It appears rather than just not approving non-competitive renewal awards (which I assumed was the plan), "NIH" has decided to actively terminate awards now, even fellowships.

Convince me that cruelty is not the point...
