The end of FY 2025 is coming, and #OMB appears perfectly content to use us as targets. We are not their chess pieces. We serve our PIs. We are here in our personal capacities. Follow the #NIH.

“The idea behind DEI was very simple, that the composition of institutions should reflect the public they serve...But I think the left took it too far."

I'd note how status threat and reaction often drives this feeling: "the left took it too far," and it serves to justify wrecking.
Which of Trump’s upheavals in U.S. science are likely to stick?

Dr. Ginexi's #NIH post on FY2026 confirms bipartisan support. We can expect partial preservation with funding uncertainty, capacity uncertainty, and authority uncertainty.

The final LHHS bill with funding for Health and Human Services is out this morning! At first glance, it looks similar to the Senate bill with a roughly 1% increase in total funding for the NIH. While it doesn't match inflation, it avoids many of the problems in the presidential budget request. 1/n

I specialize in health systems. If you don't interact with the health system, your health outcomes are worse compared with those who do. This is effectively eugenics. Even for people with working visas, MAHA, MAGA, and ICE are out to get you.

Last year a KFF/New York Times Survey of Immigrants found that 51% of immigrant adults were “very concerned” or “somewhat concerned” that health officials or providers may share their information with ICE or CBP.

Now the Trump administration is doing just that. https://on.kff.org/4sZBIYO

Replacing the US child vaccine schedule with Denmark’s schedule is negligence, writes @drdemetre.bsky.social

“When a jet engine fails at 30,000 feet, it’s not the manual writer who pays the price. It’s the passengers — in this case, America’s children.”

I'm reading this, and with time series analyses to illustrate trends, what explains the differences in outcomes between patients in community care versus those in VAs? I expect patients in ICUs are sicker than the general population; I'd like to know whether distance to VA centers affect outcomes.
From 2019 to 2023, #Veterans receiving ICU care in community settings experienced slightly higher risk-adjusted mortality and increased resource intensity compared to VA medical centers. ja.ma/49DHRly
