As Trump feeds on the carcass of the U.S. constitution, an alliance of tech, energy, & capital are circling around bedrock environmental laws like a pack of hyenas, seeking to assert energy & tech dominance over the country's future. That's my takeaway from this permitting summit.

NEW: What’s happening in the US is TECHNOFASCISM.

It’s fascism + surveillance technologies. Palantir is playing a central role. And the UK is next in line.

Oh dear me no—he's not. The man is a serial sexual predator who has spent a lifetime committing property and violent crimes against 200+ people.

He caused 400,000+ deaths during the pandemic and felt no upset over that whatsoever.

As one of his biographers I *promise* you he's not rattled by this.

A new strategy in climate lawsuits:

Michigan is suing oil companies under anti-trust laws, accusing them of an “illicit conspiracy" to prop up fossil fuels and delay the transition to renewable energy.

Michigan Sues Big Oil, Alleging A Conspiracy To Delay The Energy Transition
The lawsuit, which comes after the Trump administration preemptively sued the state last year, brings claims under federal and state antitrust laws.

As Bill Gates recommends a “strategic pivot” away from climate change, the Gates Foundation made record investments in fossil fuel companies in 2024, despite its 2019 pledge to divest.

No one should ever listen to Gates about climate change again.

PSA:

Climate change is not “human-caused.” Fossil fuels and fossil fuel companies cause climate change. Their own internal documents admit it. (Link in comments)

No one says that lung cancer is human-caused. They rightfully say that cigarettes and cigarette companies cause lung cancer.

“Producers in the Permian Basin…produce copious amounts of toxic, salty water, which they pump back into the ground…It is creating a huge mess.”

Undeterred…

“The basin is trying to lure data centers with cheap land and energy and has plans to become a hub for burying carbon dioxide…”
"Swaths of the Permian Basin appear to be on the verge of geological malfunction."

An unfolding disaster, shielded by centrist pundits who tell us to "support America's oil & gas industry."

Here's an idea: The oil & gas industry should support America, not wreck our land, air, & water.
America’s Biggest Oil Field Is Turning Into a Pressure Cooker
Drillers’ injection of wastewater is creating mayhem across the Permian Basin, raising concern about the future of fossil-fuel production there.

Why are famous chefs fighting PFAS bans?
The answer, in retrospect, is obvious—and it’s part of a larger campaign to stop bans on Teflon cookware nationwide.

The lack of accountability the SPEED Act would enable—championed by fossil fuels & Abundance folk alike—is exacerbated, ironically, by the fact that it would legislatively preclude the use of NEPA to substantively demand better outcomes in the public interest! WTF?
Riddle me this: The Abundance agenda, purports to seek outcome (vs. process) oriented decision-making via "permitting reform."

If that's the case, why the hell are they supporting the SPEED Act, which would neuter the National Environmental Policy Act by making it "purely procedural"?

Setting that aside, Flegal's post contains very serious omissions suggesting she: (1) Doesn't understand NEPA beyond centrist think tank data slop; and/or (2) Is attacking NEPA in bad faith.

U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items “potentially divisive.”
